Girl, honestly, I’m not going to discuss this with you anymore. I feel like you’re not really reading my messages and keep twisting what I’m saying. First you said Zoro was okay with Robin leaving, I showed you that wasn’t true, and now we’re suddenly arguing about whether that proves romance. That wasn’t even my point.
Wish you the best, bye ✌️
And for the people in the last row:
Oda never said that romance between the Straw Hats will never happen.
He never said that. 😊
So please stop spreading misinformation and stick to the facts. Thank you.
SBS Vol. 34 Answer:
When a reader asked if the crew members would ever fall in love with each other, Oda joked,
"They're all in love... WITH ADVENTURE!"
Girl, honestly, I think you should actually read the manga before arguing with me about specific scenes, because you’re literally getting major events wrong. 😭 You said Zoro accepted Robin leaving, but the actual panel shows Zoro asking Luffy: “Luffy, are ya ok with Robin leaving the crew?” And Luffy answers “HELL NO!!!!” So Zoro is literally questioning whether they’re really going to let Robin leave. That is NOT Zoro saying, “Yeah, let her go.” 💀 And please remember: you read manga panels from right to left, not left to right.
And honestly, the Enies Lobby argument makes this even worse. You said Sanji freed Robin from her shackles, but Sanji did NOT free Robin. Zoro had the key, and the keys were thrown to Franky, who then used the key to unlock Robin’s handcuffs. That is literally what happened. So when you confidently tell me things that didn’t even happen, while we’re arguing about specific manga evidence, what am I even supposed to discuss with you? 😭
At this point I genuinely feel like you’re not actually reading the panels properly and are just taking whatever interpretation fits your argument. I’ve shown you the actual manga pages, dialogue, scenes and moments, and I keep getting the same arguments repeated back to me while basic events are being misremembered.
So honestly, I’m done.
And here’s an extra panel just for you and again, read it from right to left. 😉
Honestly, Girl, if someone doesn’t want to see something, they won’t see it. You can show them 1,000 pieces of evidence and they’ll still say, “I don’t see it.” 🙄That’s not my problem. I enjoy my ship, I love Zorobin, and I see the connection between them. If you don’t, that’s completely fine. You don’t have to see it.
But please don’t compare Zorobin to Franky and Robin like the evidence is somehow the same. If Robin was fascinated by Franky’s mechanical/robot side, then sure, I’d understand the argument. But Robin has repeatedly reacted with disinterest or embarrassment toward Franky’s robot antics. She shows she doesn’t LIKE IT! It’s not the same with Zoro. So please 🙄
And since you specifically said Zoro simply accepted Robin leaving and only Luffy wanted her back, I even have the actual panel for that. Zoro was motivating Luffy not to let her go, and I even see him pushing him to bring her back. Accepting someone leaving would be a completely different reaction. My boy was invested in bringing his wife back. ❤️
So what are we even arguing about here?
Look, I genuinely don’t understand what the problem is. You say Zoro and Robin have nothing going on, okay, you see it that way. But I believe the opposite, and I have actual evidence for why I believe it.
I have the pictures. I have the texts. I have the scenes, the moments, the foreshadowing, the manga panels, the dialogue, the parallels, and even the Japanese meanings behind certain things. My entire page is basically filled with these moments and detailed explanations of how they connect to the story.
So seriously, what do you have? Your own interpretation? Because “I don’t see it” isn’t evidence. You keep telling me that Zoro and Robin have no romantic chemistry, but where is your actual evidence for that? What is your proof that Oda intended their relationship to be completely non romantic?
I literally show you a manga panel where Zoro clearly reacts to Robin. I explain the scene, the context, the wording, the parallels, and how it connects to the larger narrative. I connect the pieces together and explain why I believe Oda is foreshadowing something. And what do I get back? “I don’t see it.” 😫
Okay. You don’t see it. That’s not my problem. 👍🏼You are completely allowed to interpret the story differently, but your interpretation doesn’t somehow invalidate the evidence I’m showing you.🤷♀️
And honestly, that’s what is frustrating me. 😣😫I’ve explained this over and over again, and every time you come back with another huge message telling me why you don’t believe in Zorobin. But you’re not actually giving me evidence that disproves what I’m showing you. You’re giving me your interpretation of those scenes.
I’m not asking you to ship Zorobin. If you don’t believe in it, fine. Seriously. But I have my evidence, my analysis, my panels, my moments, my foreshadowing, and my interpretation of how Oda structures the story. That’s the difference.
So please, if you don’t see it, you don’t see it. That’s completely fine. 👍🏼But I’m tired of repeating the same arguments over and over again when my entire page is already full of the evidence and explanations you’re asking for.
Bro, I think this is where we’re talking past each other, because you’re applying your own definition of “romantic chemistry” as if that’s the only way Oda can write attraction. 🙄
You say you’d need a “magnetic pull” where two people constantly get in each other’s faces. But that’s not some objective requirement for romance. Especially with characters like Zoro and Robin, who are both quiet, mature, and emotionally restrained. Their dynamic is literally built around the opposite: comfort, trust, subtle reactions, and understanding without needing constant flirting.
And I find the Zosan argument especially funny in that context. 😂You say Zoro reacts most strongly to Sanji, but that “strong reaction” is literally their rivalry and constant fighting. If strong reactions automatically equal romantic chemistry, then suddenly every intense rivalry in One Piece becomes romantic. That doesn’t really work.
The same applies to Zoro respecting Robin. I never said, “Zoro respects Robin, therefore he loves her.” 😭I’m talking about the combination of things: his initial suspicion turning into trust, their unusual comfort around each other, the way they communicate, Robin’s reactions to him, and the repeated situations where Oda places them together. One individual moment isn’t my argument.
And saying Zoro was “ready to ditch Robin” in Water 7 💀 Bro, did we even read the same manga? I literally have evidence showing the opposite. Zoro said, “We should just charge in there, and find Robin!!” He wanted to find her and confront the situation. He wasn’t simply saying, “She left, so let her go.” And honestly, Zoro didn’t even react this strongly when Nami left the crew for Arlong. So I really don’t understand how you can use Water 7 as evidence against their bond.
And the “ask any casual viewer” argument? 😭 I mean, ZoRobin edits from OPLA Season 2 have gotten over 5 million likes on TikTok, and that was literally just an edit of them staring at each other. Obviously that doesn’t prove canon, but it does show that people can pick up on their chemistry even from very subtle interactions. So which casual viewers are we talking about? 😂
And two characters don’t have to flirt like crazy with each other for romance to be possible. Zoro and Robin simply aren’t written like that. They’re both quiet people, so their dynamic is naturally more subtle.
If you don’t see it, that’s fine, but I can literally turn the tables here. Robin is the only woman around whom Zoro consistently seems completely calm and comfortable. He doesn’t have to be grumpy or annoyed around her. He can actually sit down and casually talk with her. Their body language often mirrors each other, they share the same dry humor, and there are multiple examples of their mutual understanding and trust.
I said Robin isn’t attracted to Franky because she clearly doesn’t like the whole “robot” thing. Did you see her reactions? 🤨
You’re a Robin fan, right?
So you probably remember her reaction on Fishman Island when Franky transformed into a robot. Or that scene when Franky was in Chopper’s body and Robin told Franky to stop making that face and even stop talking. She was even embarrassed in Thriller Bark.
Yeah, she’s so attracted to him. 💀
I understand what you’re saying, but I think we’re still talking about two different things. I’m not saying Oda has never made comments about the Straw Hats and romance. I’m saying that none of those statements, in my view, clearly establish that no Straw Hat will ever have a romantic relationship with another Straw Hat by the end of the manga.
The Maeda quote is specifically about the mandate Oda gave for the adaptation, and even if Maeda is directly citing Oda, that still doesn’t tell us how Oda might handle the characters’ relationships at the very end of the manga.
And with the older SBS answers, I think context matters. Oda joking about the crew being “in love with adventure” is not the same as him explicitly saying, “These characters will never fall in love with each other.” If he wanted to make that an absolute rule for the entire manga, I personally would expect a much more direct statement. Or he could simply not make Sanji so highly attracted to Nami. And yes, he may be a womanizer, but he clearly treats Nami differently from any other woman. Nami comes first, then the other women.
As for Robin, I agree that she has never explicitly been shown saying that she is romantically attracted to anyone. That’s exactly why I’m talking about subtext and interpretation, not claiming that Robin has canonically confessed feelings for Zoro. I think there are differences in how she is written around Zoro compared to other characters, and I find those differences worth analyzing.
And I’m not saying “Robin definitely doesn’t like Franky” as an objective canon fact. I’m saying that, based on how I interpret their interactions and Robin’s characterization, I don’t personally see romantic attraction there. That’s my reading, just like your reading of her relationship with Zoro is yours. 😊
I never said the viral edit proves producer intent. 😂 My point was simply that the reaction to such a small Zoro x Robin interaction shows how much chemistry and hype exists around them. I’m obviously not using TikTok likes as proof of canon.
And I understand your point about Maeda and Zoro/Nami, but I think we’re interpreting the situation differently. The fact that Oda doesn’t want the live action to push romance on the crew doesn’t automatically tell us what he intends for the manga’s eventual ending. That’s exactly why I keep separating the live-action production decisions from the manga itself.
As for Robin wanting to find Zoro, I agree that it can be explained through crew loyalty. I’m not saying that one scene alone is romantic evidence. My argument comes from the accumulation of details throughout the story their interactions, the way Robin reacts to Zoro, Zoro’s reactions to her, their parallels, and the symbolism I’ve pointed out in many my other posts.
And honestly, I’m not trying to say that fan hype can override Oda’s decisions. 🤨
You don’t have to agree with Zorobin, but I don’t think the discussion is settled simply by saying “Oda said no romance,” especially when the actual wording, context, and meaning of those statements are still not clear.
Nope. If Oda were genuinely against romance between the Straw Hats, I think he would have made that much clearer and stated it directly, for example in one of his SBS, rather than relying on a random Q&A answer from an old interview. It’s not even 100% clear that this was actually Oda’s own direct statement in the first place. So I don’t think it’s reasonable to treat that as definitive proof that Straw Hat romance can never happen.
And nope, I like Franky. He’s kind and funny, but his design isn’t really what I see Robin being attracted to. She clearly doesn’t see him that way, so I think Zorobin is fine. 💁♀️
And again let people ship what they want I don’t really care.🤷♀️
Zorobin will remain strong and hot. I mean, have you seen Zoro and Robin’s actors?! They’re perfect in both looks and aura! 😍🔥
Also, just a side fact since you mentioned the chemistry between Zoro x Nami: one Zoro x Robin edit from OPLA Season 2 went viral on TikTok and got over 5 million likes, just from them staring at each other. 😭 So… no other OPLA ship has gotten anywhere near that many likes. The hype around Zorobin is real.
I’m 100% sure we’ll get more moments between them in Season 3. Even her introduction in Season 2 was connected to her wanting to find him. The producers have clearly seen the edits and the hype around these two characters. Even I, as a hardcore Zorobin fan, was shocked that such a small interaction got people this crazy. Imagine the final episode of OPLA Season 3 when she actually joins the crew. 😏😉
