Rehearsal day, February 8, 1964. 🇺🇸✈️
Here is a glimpse behind the scenes at CBS Studio 50, taken the afternoon before the Fab Four changed television history. This candid photo catches Ed Sullivan checking out Paul McCartney’s legendary Höfner violin bass, with John, Ringo, and their manager Brian Epstein all crowding around to talk shop.
The one guy missing from the huddle is George Harrison. He was stuck in bed over at the Plaza Hotel, dealing with a rough 104-degree fever and strep throat. Their road manager, Neil Aspinall, actually had to stand in for him on stage just so the TV crew could get their camera angles down. It is a fantastic, calm-before-the-storm snapshot from the exact weekend British rock and roll took over America.
Who remembers watching this historic broadcast live on their family television back in February of '64? What was your immediate reaction when Ed Sullivan introduced them? Let’s hear your memories in the comments! 👇
