Assessment of Soil Lead Contamination in East Kazakhstan

On 2–9 August 2026, Human Health Institute, EHPMI, and @terrafound conducted a field assessment of soil contamination with heavy metals in three industrial cities of East Kazakhstan: Oskemen, Ridder, and Altai.

Besides soils contamination the team found that lead-based paint was often used on playground equipment in all three cities — another factor increasing the risk of lead poisoning of children.
