Happy #WorldTeachersDay2024 to all the #AtRiskTeachers who were left behind in Afghanistan when the Taliban took power. They endured a drawn-out & traumatic period in hiding, but almost all of them have now, at last, been safely relocated to the UK.
Happy #WorldTeaxhersDay2024 to teachers all around the world, & especially to teachers in Afghanistan, who do such an important job in such challenging circumstances. The bravery & determination of Afghan teachers means there will always be hope for a brighter future for 🇦🇫.
📢BREAKING! We're excited to share that the Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme (ACRS) now allows family reunification for those separated during the Kabul evacuation in 2021. This means some Afghans can refer their closest family members for relocation to the UK.🧵
Great to see another of the #AtRiskTeachers safely relocated to the UK, after over 2 years hiding from the Taliban in Afghanistan & then waiting in hotels in Pakistan. Good to see you have have the Library Said.
Shocking, disappointing but sadly unsurprising. The UK's lack of recognition or respect for our Afghan allies has been totally unacceptable. The rejection of Special Forces allies mirrors the #ARAP rejection of #BritishCouncil teachers who taught UK values across Afghanistan.
@JJJosephField I think the pledge is great, & will really help lots of teachers in very challenging circumstances, which is really good to see.
Sadly tho', there continues to be a comprehensive lack of support or provision for the Afghan teachers who worked for BC & were left behind.
A year since the BBC programme 'Abandoned in Afghanistan' was broadcast, the message is still very poignant, as many Afghan @BritishCouncil teachers remain stuck in 🇦🇫 & 🇵🇰. A very worthwhile listen @RishiSunak@EwartBiggs@paulkenyonTV@Katewest0

Afghan @BritishCouncil teachers enabled learners all across Afghanistan. Sadly, when the Taliban took power we left our teachers behind. Over 2 years later, 20+ remain in hiding in Afghanistan, with a further 25 stuck in hotels in Pakistan. @RishiSunak please fix. #AtRiskTeachers
Here's the @BritishCouncil pledge for supporting displaced teachers. It refers to "well-being needs, recognising & addressing trauma..."
Over 100 Afghan BC teachers were wrongly left behind when the Taliban took power. Many are still stuck in 🇦🇫 & 🇵🇰 - they need support from BC.
Great to see @BritishCouncil is keen to support displaced teachers from various countries... no mention of Afghan teachers though!
What support will BC provide for Afghan teachers a) arriving in the UK b) stuck in Pakistan c) hiding in Afghansitan?
#AtRiskTeachers@EwartBiggs
Such a shame to blur out Sadaf's smile in the photos! After so long hiding from the Taliban, she is relieved to be safe in 🇬🇧. She was at great risk because she taught English & 'UK-values' on @GOVUK programmes, & appeared in lots of @BritishCouncil social media. Safe at last.
Afghan @BritishCouncil teachers were immensely brave to teach English & 'UK-values' in the strict Taliban state of Kandahar (pictured). While some have now been relocated to the UK, approx 20+ are still in hiding in Afghanistan, with a further 25+ still waiting in Pakistan.
One thing Afghanistan needs a lot more of - educational opportunities for women. In the pic. a @BritishCouncil teacher instructs her students. BC teachers did great work enabling Afghan #WomenAndGirls, but when the Taliban took power we left them behind. Let's get them to safety.
@McDonaldScott_@JJJosephField Great that @BritishCouncil is pledging to support refugees & specifically displaced teachers... but what about all the Afghan BC teachers left behind in Afghanistan & stuck in Pakistan. No educational provision for them for over 2 years! Why not @McDonaldScott_ ? #AtRiskTeachers
Great news for the Afghan @BritishCouncil teachers relocated to 🇬🇧 on @GOVUK flights during December. They did great work for us across Afghanistan & have waited over 2 years to get to safety. Many of their colleagues remain stuck in hiding in 🇦🇫 & 🇵🇰. @FCDOGovUK#AtRiskTeachers
Former @BritishCouncil teacher 'Ali' spent over 2 years waiting to be relocated after the Taliban took control of 🇦🇫. 2 weeks ago he arrived in 🇬🇧, and went straight to the local library to learn. He is a strong believer in the value of education. @RishiSunak#AtRiskTeachers
Free from fear! After over 2 years stuck in hiding in Afghanistan, or waiting in a hotel in Pakistan, 'Ali' is at last safe in the UK, & able to get on with the rest of his life. It's been a long road to safety for the former @BritishCouncil teacher. #AtRiskTeachers
While its great to hear that some Afghan @BritishCouncil teachers are now safely in 🇬🇧, others remain in hiding in 🇦🇫, or stuck in hotels in 🇵🇰. 'Shabana' has been hiding with her 3 children for well over 2 years now. It's time to get her to safety. @RishiSunak#AtRiskTeachers
Sayed is very relieved to have finally reached the UK, after a 2 year struggle to get to safety. He taught English & UK values for the @BritishCouncil in Afghanistan, & has suffered greatly since the Taliban took power. At last he is safe in the UK. @RishiSunak#AtRiskTeachers
