Humans are naturally drawn to certain faces, colors, shapes, voices, and, yes, sexual characteristics. Advertisers know this and use our psychology to get our attention and sell products. That’s not unique to women, and it’s certainly not a new phenomenon.
This ad has gotten a lot of attention lately, with some people accusing Sydney Sweeney of promoting sexism in women’s sports and hurting women’s confidence. Here’s my take:
In this case, I think that line is being crossed. A woman choosing to appear nude or sexualized in an ad or film isn’t automatically the exploitation of women. She is also making a professional and financial choice—and God knows how much Ms. Sweeney was paid for this short ad
I’m not suggesting an entrance exam for presidential/parliament candidates. But why not make the results of some basic competency assessment public, so voters can judge for themselves? Do you think, how many of current leaders could get dropped?
In South Korea, the "People Power Party" tests its candidates’ knowledge of politics, economics, history, law, science & cognitive ability. A very low score can even get a candidate dropped from the race.
Why don’t more democracies have sth similar? Doctors & other professionals face competency tests, yet people can run for office with little knowledge / understanding of complex issues.
Even if Iran’s gov collapses under sanctions, IRGC will survive. IRGC is a decentralized network of militias and armed groups, much like the Houthis & Hamas. US sanctions may weaken it, but at the same time, they create exactly the kind of env in which groups like these thrive
By overusing sanctions, US is only putting more strain on the already stretched power of the dollar and pushing countries to look for alternatives—which, judging by the way things are going, could very well be BRICS
@Reuters US cannot win this war using its old playbook of sanctions and conventional warfare. IRGC was preparing itself for this for decades. What US needs is swarms of drones, AI, and GODDAMN tunnels
@Reuters The IRGC was literally threatening to do exactly what they’re doing right now. Yet US wasn’t even remotely prepared for this—not for drones, not for the aftermath of killing Khamenei, not for ballistic missiles, not for protecting its allies, and not for the Strait of Hormuz
@Reuters If US officers had already considered all of scenarios before the war, shouldn’t they have built some GODDAMN tunnels before this stupid war? Seriously, what were they thinking?
