Двадесет и пет години откакто Европейският съюз премахна визите за българските граждани. Румънците започнаха да пътуват без визи с цяла година по-късно. Заслугата е на Иван Костов и неговото правителство, чиято отлична дипломация позволи визите за българите да отпадната година преди визите за румънците. Това се случи по време на френско председателство на ЕС и не беше никак лесно да се убеди френското правителство да предпочете България пред Румъния предвид историческите връзки между Франция и Румъния. Тогава бях посланик във Франция и на снимката съм безумно щастлив заедно с Костов на срещата на високо равнище в Ница, където бе взето историческото решение. Не са вече сред нас, уви, двете жени на снимката: Антоанета Приматарова, тогава наш посланик в ЕС, и Албена Ивайлова, началник на правителствената прес служба. За себе си знам, че това бе един от звездните мигове за работата ми като дипломат, когато имах ясното съзнание, че съм помогнал да се случи нещо важно и конкретно за всички българи. Голямата заслуга е, разбира се, на Иван Костов.
