🎚️ How to increase DAW performance?
I’m sure you are aware of the things like buffer and all of the settings in your particular DAW that help the performance.
But one thing is not really obvious.
Due to how DAWs interact with CPU, you always have only one core that processes each track/channel. Sometimes you have one overloaded channel that causes clicks and pops because one core doesn’t have enough power to handle all the processing, while other cores are not fully loaded.
For example, you have a huge mastering chain, or vocal chain, with a few resource heavy plugins.
What you can do is distribute the processing onto two tracks. By adding a new bus, route your track to it, and do part of the processing on a separate channel.
You will distribute the load between different cores and win some extra headroom for more processing without overloading the CPU.

Making music in the terminal with @monomes wonderful meadowphysics sequencer ported to Python using @textualizeio for the UI. The sound is synthesized by #SurgeXT hosted in #Renoise.
Playing with @renoise and @monomes on the MNT Reform laptop (A311d CPU). The latency seems to be enough for a live setup, but I wish there were more plugins for ARM #Linux systems.

I've completed this grid build over 10 years ago and have played numerous grids since then, but still feel like I haven't fully explored its possibilities.
