I go by coolguy on here. I'm currently a backend engineer looking for SWE roles across backend, infrastructure, and fullstack/product engineering

Day 20 of Spooky October Job Hunt
Got a soft rejection from the compilers job I interviewed with. If I really want to get into compilers, I really have to build more and contribute to the space. Also had a good meeting for the game dev. Still keeping up with my cold apps.

Still awaiting on my interviews, but meanwhile getting some more cold applications in. Shit feels so dead. I need to find other ways of getting my applications seen. Might need to develop some more marketing skills ok back to leetcode today.

Day 17 of Spooky October Job Hunt.
Little bit of recovering from all the interview prep from last week. I have a lot to work on and improve upon, but for today spent time working on my game. Networked a little. It turns out if you have like 6 to 7 years of experience job hunting is free shit. Met some guy who was interviewing at like every big company in the bay like the beast that he is. anyway onwards for me.

Day 16 of Spooky October Job Hunt.
Huge gap, but I was locked in deep C/C++ systems\compilers interview loop. It was rough. I practiced a bit, but only had few days before all the rounds started. Im not sure why they even interviewed me because my experience did not line up with the job. Really knowing your C and systems knowledge is necessary even with AI tools. I learned that I really need to explain every design decision in all my projects. Kind of unlucky that some of my projects are old that were related to the job. I need to know them front to back even if they are a bit outdated. Probably got rejected. Got it keep it pushing.

Cold applications were in and started prep for one of the interviews. Looking into llvm for the first time. I'm probably cooked for the interview. Spent some time in Sf chinatown for their market festival. Won my first game mahjong which was fun. Maybe the day was not as productive, but was very fun.

Got my cold applications in and tried to message a view recruiters which did not get read. This is hard. I need to get some interesting work on my resume to get to some interviews, but I am struggling with that right now.

-> not great fit for referral (i guest to work on compilers you need to have exp. with llvm who would have thought)
-> get cooked at work. did not like my jev proposal
-> game im working is plagues with balancing issues and peformance issues.

got my 10 cold apps in tho will stream later tonight working on leetcode and learning about kubernetes(swarming 👿 or some shit).

my resume projects are kinda of old and don't really show applicable skills right now. I think I need to revamp them, but I really am not sure what I should build.

I feel like part of the reason why I struggle in job hunts is that I really don't think I am good enough. i feel like most jobs I apply to I have no chance and I don't reach out to people because I feel my resume sucks and I don't want to waste their time.

Day 3 of Spooky October Job Hunt 👻
Hot day today in the bay.🥵
Did some work on my resume and website.
Emailed a warm referral.
Played with jev last night and I am not convinced its good enough yet. On very specialized tasks, it doesn't compare to training your own model with customized data. Its like ML for the lazy. Maybe there are more interesting tasks that it is good at.
