A legend in his own lifetime, this Wild MacGregor got the nickname Roy because of his red hair.

Edinburgh born, the inventor of the telephone was granted a patent for “transmitting vocal or other sounds telegraphically” on March 7 1876. Even more impressively, he has a Wetherspoon's pub named after him on George Street, Edinburgh!
