@bphillipsonMP@Telegraph How do you think parents feel reading messages like this when they have battled so hard to get their children into school? The parent blaming has to stop. It is so cruel. Please focus your attention instead on the school system that is failing our children
@bphillipsonMP Hot housing 10 year olds to perform well in tests so that schools can be benchmarked is just another thing that is removing the joy of learning for our children. Not to mention the impact the education system is having on the mental health of children
@75ThunderRoad The change in language needs to be led by government. I read the recent new policy on school attendance and the language is still all wrong. This has to be mental health driven. Not driven by blame and attack on families.
@teamsquarepeg This is part of the whole culture of parent blaming when it comes to school avoidance. This is coming from government too and has to stop. These parents are broken
@75ThunderRoad Thanks Steve for all you do to raise awareness about anxiety. Understanding is key. I’m also feeling anxious about the start of term. Hoping new teachers will be aware of my daughter’s situation
@75ThunderRoad Such an important thread. Sometimes I think this happens as schools in some boroughs are getting no local authority advice and are having to learn as they go. Schools need a national set of advice on EBSA that is child led. That’s the only approach working for my child
Huge congrats to @teamsquarepeg who have been nominated for a National Diversity award. Please, please vote for both Ellie Costello & Square Peg to recognise the hard work & dedication of Ellie who is such an articulate voice, representing the 58,500 families in our support group
@75ThunderRoad Such a great post Steve. We are being supported but it’s so hard to navigate. There needs to be simple national guidance. Some boroughs have guidance around school avoidance for example. Others have nothing. I’m sure schools would welcome clear, consistent, national guidance
@75ThunderRoad Thank you for highlighting this Steve. I totally agree with your views around part-time timetables. We will never help children with severe anxiety unless we start listening to them
@75ThunderRoad This is totally spot on. My daughter’s school are being really supportive and child led which is such a relief. We all found the part time timetable so stressful. It creates additional pressure whether things are going well or badly
Jessie was one of Ruby’s best mates.
In year 10 they hatched a plan to one day be PM & Deputy PM.
In year 11 they were appointed head girl & deputy head girl at their school, @TCSDulwich - & they joked that this was the first step on their path to #10
