I made a big mistake calculating how much einkorn we would have for our customers this year. 👎
Einkorn has a hull, and the amount we get after dehulling varies, making it difficult to calculate.
We planted plenty of einkorn this year, so this won't happen next year.
Our harvest will begin in July and is shaping up to be an amazing crop.
Thank you for your patience as we wait for the new crop to grow. We'll hold a big einkorn sale to celebrate, so make sure you're on our list.
Our customers are the very best. Your loyalty and support make all this possible.
By the way, this is a great time of year to visit our regenerative organic family farm. If you're ever in the area, please reach out in advance and schedule a tour!
This is infuriating.
Officials claim glyphosate “binds tightly to soil and doesn’t run off.”
Yet USGS studies have repeatedly found it (and its breakdown product AMPA) in rainwater, air, and streams across agricultural and even some forested areas. It’s clearly mobile via spray drift and surface runoff, especially after rain.
It’s also a powerful chelator:
It binds up key soil nutrients like iron, manganese, and zinc. When those get released (e.g., by phosphate or other changes), the glyphosate can come right along with them.
From the records, this isn’t millions of acres nationwide. It’s thousands, and mostly in California, where post-wildfire reforestation is exploding. Plans for 2026 include ~10,000 acres in Lassen National Forest and ~11,700 in the Caldor Fire scar near Tahoe, applied with backpack sprayers. That’s targeted, but still enough to break recent state records.
We’ve seen the long-term questions about glyphosate on farm ground: soil microbe shifts, nutrient tie-up, earthworm impacts, and contamination worries.
There’s a reason we don’t use glyphosate on our farm and why we test our food to ensure they are glyphosate free.
So why risk the same on our public forests?
Runoff and drift into streams, reduced biodiversity, and creating flammable conifer monocultures don’t exactly scream “resilient ecosystem.”
Anyone have solid info on site-specific monitoring, alternatives being tried, or NEPA docs for these projects?
Are we trading one problem for bigger long-term ones?
@oliveegger Meanwhile European family members eat what the Lady of Little Pine is baking up and they say they wish they could get it’s like in Spain or Germany. 🤣🤡

We see lots of baked goods on socials around here. Some are even good. None are remotely close to this level.
The Lady of Little Pine has absolutely nailed her fresh-milled @einkorn loaves. 🤤🙏🥖

The hardest part of farming isn’t the long hours.
It’s not the hard physical labor.
It’s the unknowns.
The risk.
The surprises.
This year, we had a surprisingly warm fall with plenty of rain.
Now it’s winter, and one of the warmest on record.
No snow on the ground in January!
Will we have enough water for our crops this year?
We pray and keep working, assuming we will.
Never stop believing 🙏
Installing the mezzanine for our new flour milling system today.
Not as good as fresh milled at home but will be a good “next best” option for those who can’t
Oops I forgot to take a pic of the finished dish!
Home-preserved tomato sauce from the pantry with tons of garlic, plus olive oil and a can of spicy mussels my sister brought me from Spain. With the excellent Einkorn pasta from @einkorn. 🤌🤤🍝
What a beautiful German Pancake using Einkorn ancient grain flour ❤️ Thanks @einkorn for growing the amazing grain...and making the new cook book available!!
@gtyyup That is fantastic! We make the top, and they turn out amazing every time. My favorite topping is a cranberry with dried fruit blend mixed in a food processor, with sweet cream on top
