@atres_@MyLatinLife It used to be good when it was actually a hidden gem. It was the cheapest major city in Mexico in like 2017 - 2018, and there were no gringos. The downtown felt local. Now it is a giant overpriced tourist trap/ retirement home.
@bold_perception It's not at all. I was there in 2023 in the low season, then there again earlier this year around carnaval for a few months. I think I saw maybe 3 gringos around caranval time other than that, almost none. NE Brasil will always be low key. Too raw.
@djpnewton@graemelamperson Campeche is totally dead in October though.. And the weather will most likely be too cold and rainy to enjoy the beach consistently.
@graemelamperson Don't count on the weather there being good at all. I stayed almost the same dates in 2023, and I think there were like 3 sunny days in totay, very windy, rainy and dead in the smaller suburbs with beaches. Definitely stay in Centro.
@MyLatinLife Interesting, though wouldn't FEIE be the wrong tool once you're actually resident? At that point you're paying Mexican taxes, and the foreign tax credit usually does more for you than the exclusion does. Or, do most just not pay mex taxes?
@wander_investor@MyLatinLife Where are you getting that latinos don't work? Mexico leads the OECD in annual hours worked. The US is 400 hours behind. A few countries in Latam are also up there.
@nomadgeist Agreed, as somebody who speaks Portguese and Spanish and has been learning for damn near a decade. Unless you are really going above and beyond, and learn faster than average, it's gonna take a while to reach that point.
@graemelamperson You bring up good points, but wouldn't most make their kids go to private school in the US or Canada though? In the US, private school is way more expensive than it would be in Latam. Not to mention the savings in other areas you'd be getting in Latam, which more than pay for it
@nomadgeist It will indeed be very interesting to see how it all plays out. You might be surprised though, it might either take longer than you think, or, not happen for some kind of unforeseen reason. I still think there is a lot of juice left, and it's not nearly as bad as some say.
@Skytrader003@LRendonL4U@MyLatinLife Why would they allow you to apply for citizenship if you don't even live in the country? 180 days in two years is nothing. if you can't live up to that, why apply for citizienship in the first place.
@BowTiedPassport Nobody said fluency replaces diligence. It's what diligence runs on. High base rate is the argument for understanding the room, not against it. You can't audit what you can't read.
@BowTiedPassport This is stuff we tell ourselves when we want to feel important, but most gringos that go to Latam and have this mentality end up getting played like a fiddle and they don't even realize it. Most gringos doing 'business' in Latam get shafted due to this
@MrAnderson987@BowTiedPassport With Brazilian women especially, you need to kind of play dumb and water yourself down a bit. They are NOT impressed by a gringo that already knows a lot about BR +Portugues. If anything it hurts. As a gringo, they want you to fulfill the stereotype to the max.
@MyLatinLife Anywhere in the northeast outside of maybe pipa doesn't have many gringos at all imo. Any part of the interior in any region is also without gringos, but I see your point. NE interior of BR is pretty rough around the edges though.
@sovereignatlas@wander_investor@MyLatinLife@planbparaguay A lot of people in general are like this in the x travel space. They are 'experts' on the destination they live in, but speak two words of the local language and know almost no locals, except the ones that are overcharging them for everything. Shit is funny
@gvtcontractor 1000 a month apartment in a city in the coffee zone long term lease? I imagine you're in the nicest furnished building, but even then, damn. Two bedroom? One can easily find place Pereira on airbnb for like 1200 a month, and that is inflated airbnb price.
@UpworkHelp My suspension appeal #10133452 has been pending since June 10th, 30+ days with no update, and chat won't escalate to an agent. Can someone check on it?
