@CSmartarsery Go visit any emergency ward. We cannot handle more people. The infrastructure isn’t capable. But let’s bring in more, have people wait but also get them housed so people that live here can’t afford the jacked up prices. She needs to be removed.
My old employer, Pieridae, had a contract to sell LNG to Germany 12 years ago, a decade before anyone else. Unfortunately for us, Trudeau killed that deal.
------------------------------------------------
Pieridae Energy (now Cavvy Energy) is a Canadian energy company founded around 2011–2012, originally focused on developing LNG export infrastructure.
It pursued the Goldboro LNG project in Nova Scotia (near Goldboro, Guysborough County), intended as Atlantic Canada’s first LNG export terminal. The plan involved two liquefaction trains (roughly 10 million tonnes per annum total capacity), using existing pipeline infrastructure (including the Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline) to bring Western Canadian natural gas east for liquefaction and shipment primarily to Europe and other markets.
In 2013, Pieridae signed a landmark 20-year offtake agreement (with options for extension) with German utility Uniper (then linked to E.ON) for about 5 million tonnes per annum—roughly half of Goldboro’s planned output. This was an early, binding long-term LNG supply deal with a major German buyer, well ahead of later Canada–Germany LNG arrangements that emerged in the 2020s. The contracy had an estimated value of $35 billion.
The company secured key regulatory approvals, including environmental assessments, provincial construction/operating permits (Nova Scotia, around 2018), and Canadian LNG export authorization (via the National Energy Board / Canada Energy Regulator framework, often referenced in connection with Energy Canada/federal energy permitting processes). It also obtained U.S. Department of Energy authorization related to potential U.S. gas flows into Canada for the project. German government support was discussed (including potential large untied loan guarantees worth $4.5 billion), though it largely remained at the letter-of-intent stage.
Despite these milestones, the project faced repeated delays due to financing challenges, cost pressures, COVID-19 market disruptions, contractor issues (e.g., KBR withdrawal from a fixed-price arrangement), and difficulties securing full funding or a final investment decision. Pieridae acquired Alberta Foothills upstream assets (from Shell) to help supply the plant and later explored scaled-down or floating LNG concepts amid Europe’s energy crisis, but the onshore Goldboro proposal was effectively shelved around 2021–2023.
In 2024, Pieridae sold the Goldboro assets, permits, and related interests (for roughly CAD $12 million) as part of a strategic pivot away from the integrated East Coast LNG vision. It refocused on natural gas, NGL, and sulphur production plus gathering/processing in Alberta’s Foothills region. In May 2025 the company rebranded as Cavvy Energy Ltd.
In short, Pieridae was an early mover that secured both Canadian LNG export permitting and a pioneering long-term Uniper contract years before many subsequent Canada–Germany energy deals, but the flagship Goldboro project ultimately did not proceed to construction.
@Martyupnorth We need a mayor like the one in san Francisco. He did the hard thing and now they round up the drug users. They also have cleaners that go around washing the streets. It has cleaned up the city and it s no longer the hellscape you’d think it was.
@Martyupnorth I had a friend that was dragged out of a hospital by 6 guards. His father was dying and he could not say goodbye. Someone needs to be held accountable
