4. By applying legal frameworks, EPA is better able to hold polluters accountable and identify the true impacts on vulnerable populations.
#corporations must focus on #cumulativeimpacts on communities and identify ways to mitigate those impacts.
1. @EPA recently released the Cumulative Impacts Addendum to EJ Legal Tools. This is the first time EPA has laid out its legal authority to identify and address cumulative impacts through a range of actions, including permitting, regulations, and grants. https://t.co/qnaOxejkTq
3. Ex., opening a factory in a vulnerable community may pollute air, reduce water flow and/or decrease water quality, create waste etc, all of which, when combined and viewed holistically, will have greater negative impacts on populations than each risk viewed independently.
4/4 We are seeing crisis after crisis as it relates to drinking water. Clean water is a right. With the impending risks of climate change that’ll impose additional burden on our communities, corporate leaders must demostrate #corporateenvironmentaljustice leadership.
2/4 To fix this #environmentalinjustice, two things need to happen.
1. Our governments need to clean these communities and hold past polluters accountable. The traditional way to clean toxic sites is through the Superfund program.
3/4 However, clean ups are not matching the speed that is required due to lack of resouces and funding. So, the federal government must dedicate more resources/expertise.
2. Polluters must commit to #environmentaljustice and develop initiatives that prioritize community health.
Happy #earthday2022 to everyone! Earth Day should be a celebration of all the living beings that inhabit the Earth and a commitment to extending the best that the Earth offers to all. Access to #cleanair, #cleanenergy , #cleanwater, and #cleanlands should be free and abundant.
To end illegal fishing for good, we have to start with #transparency in global fisheries.
