Andy Beshear on JD Vance: “A guy who made his money talking down about people in Kentucky that he doesn’t fully understand. He called us lazy, he said addiction was our fault, he is wrong. He is the most conceited elected official that I have ever heard speak”
For the first time in 70 years the UN broke from consensus for the global reaffirmation of women’s rights. 37 Nations in favor & 1 against. Of course that one against the reaffirmation of women’s rights was the United States because of language that included:
-diversity, equity & inclusion
-the effects of climate change on women
- regulations for AI
-the definition of gender
- the reproductive health rights of women&girls
Don’t ever try to tell me this administration cares about women & girls.
.@JamesTalarico: There is nothing Christian about Christian Nationalism. It is the worship of power in the name of Christ—and it is a betrayal of Jesus of Nazareth.
Jesus never asked us to kill police officers, ban books, silence teachers, or defund schools. Jesus never asked us to control women's bodies or establish a Christian theocracy. All he asked was that we love thy neighbor.
We are called to love all of our neighbors, and that is exactly the opposite of what Christian Nationalism does in the world.
As yet another preemptive war is begun in the Middle East, John Quincy Adam’s words of wisdom still ring true:
“Wherever the standard of freedom and Independence has been or shall be unfurled, there will her heart, her benedictions and her prayers be.”
Like most Americans I have sympathy for the plight of the Iranian people and all subjected people around the globe, from North Korea to Tibet.
But as Adam’s wrote, America: “goes not abroad, in search of monsters to destroy.
She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all.
She is the champion and vindicator only of her own.”
The Constitution conferred the power to declare or initiate war to Congress for a reason, to make war less likely.
Madison wrote that “the Executive Branch is the branch most prone to war, therefore, the Constitution, with studied care, delegated the war power to the legislature.”
As with all war, my first and purest instinct is wish Americans soldiers safety and success in their mission.
But my oath of office is to the Constitution, so with studied care, I must oppose another Presidential war.
Americans don’t want war.
We want healthcare.
We want good education for all, free of debt.
We want everyone to have housing.
We want livable wages.
The ruling class gets rich off war while the working class dies.
Ossoff: The American people are asking: why are roving gangs of masked men—who look like they couldn’t pass the Army physical exam—dressed up like pretend Delta Force operators, on our streets, demanding papers, dragging people from their cars, and shooting people to death?
Ossoff: We were told that MAGA was for working-class Americans. But this is a government of, by, and for the ultra-rich. It’s the wealthiest Cabinet ever. This is the Epstein class. They are the elites they pretend to hate. If you’re Steve Bannon, how do you sell any of this? He’s literally closing rural hospitals to cut taxes for George Soros.
President John F. Kennedy believed that one day this country would live up to its promise of justice and equal rights for all. For those beliefs and for his sacrifice, Congress voted to make The Kennedy Center a living memorial to him, as a place built by the people for the people to celebrate what connects us.
While this trespass on the People’s will is painful, President Kennedy would remind us that it is not buildings that define the greatness of a nation. It is the actions of its people and its leaders.
So, do not be distracted from what this Administration is actually trying to erase: our connection, our community, and our commitment to the rights of all.
Sen. Ossoff: "Much of the American public are quite reasonably alarmed and asking questions after the Director of National Intelligence was spotted bizarrely and personally lurking in an FBI evidence truck in Fulton County, Georgia yesterday."
45 years ago today:
"On January 1, 1981, I looked up at the scoreboard in the Superdome and it said, 'Georgia,' where I went to school, '17, Notre Dame, 10.' We had won the national football championship. Children laughed & grown men cried. How ‘Bout Them Dogs!" —Lewis Grizzard
Sorry to go on about Taylor Swift, but I keep seeing "Let your daughter be an Erika Kirk, not a Taylor Swift.
Fuck that!
Here's a little about Taylor Swift.
She is GENEROUS.
She gave her crew for the Eras Tour 10% of the revenue. That's $197 million.
She donated enough money at EVERY venue to top off food banks for a year.
She gives money to random GoFundMes. She gave $100,000 to the family of a fire fighter who died.
She gave another $100,000 to a toddler who had cancer.
She gave away well over $200 million last year alone. And that's just what we KNOW about.
She is KIND.
She identifies fans and each year, sends a set of them Christmas presents. She looks at their Social Media to figure out what they want and buys them hand-selected gifts.
Then she WRAPS THEM HERSELF and mails them packages.
When she gave her crew bonuses, she didn't just have her accountant take care of it. She gave each of them a hand-written, personalized note.
That shows a kind of humanity that is really touching. She doesn't see employees. She sees people. You can't fake that at the end. You have to take the time to notice people and appreciate them individually throughout the year, and there were over 100 of them.
That is quite a capacity to care. Can we honestly just appreciate how big of a heart that takes? To take moments every day to NOTICE things.
I once had a venue manager tell me that when she performed at their venue she went around and introduced herself to every one of them.
She is the only act they'd ever seen do that.
She is ACCOMPLISHED
She is already one of the most successful recording artists in history, and she's only 36.
I don't care if you like her music. Her fans do. She knows her audience.
I'm a 58-year-old Gen X dude. I'm not her target audience. I can live with not everything having to be made for me.
I'm a classic rock guy. I honestly don't even know what Swift's songs are. I don't feel the need to listen to her entire library to defend her though.
She's got the receipts.
Grammys, album sales, concerts, streams--any way you want to look at it, she is one of the tops ever with years ahead of her.
She is FIERCE
And in spite of all that, she took on the MUSIC INDUSTRY and WON!
She stood up for herself, she didn't back down.
I man, you have to really appreciate what it takes to do that--especially as a woman. She literally changed the industry.
I won't go into trying to belittle Erika Kirk. There's no point in that. If you find something in her to aspire to, go for it.
But that doesn't make Taylor less of a person.
If you have a daughter who has the character of Taylor--the generosity, the kindness, and the ferocity to stand up for herself against a titan and WIN, then you have one hell of a daughter, even if she never sells an album.
If you need to drag someone down to lift someone up, that says more about you than either of them.
