Often considered an unofficial anthem of Puerto Rico, describing the island’s natural beauty and resilience while lamenting the pain of colonial rule under the United States - which calls the U.S. a “tirano” (tyrant).

Through its lyrical celebration of Puerto Rican identity and its fierce protest against foreign U.S. domination, “Preciosa” is a powerful cultural statement during an era of strong U.S. colonial control and remains a symbol of national pride, resistance, and the enduring struggle for self-determination.
