I really love this message, especially from someone who's been in the industry for so long and made more money than anyone knows what to do with.
His words apply to any industry, though. I experience it myself, even with a decade of experience. Mental humps are there to keep us humble, but are also made to be hurdled over!
@CalebBr49193707@unusual_whales You likely had a cash account. Let's say I have $5,000 in the account (cash account, not margin), I could make 20 trades a day at $100 and not get flagged. Since the settled period is now one business day, you can do that every day and never get flagged.
This can be applied to any industry. Trading, opening a business, education, etc. You grind for years and years to see results! They start compounding after nearly a decade of doing the same thing over and over again.
It doesn't end there, though. There is always a constant need to learn about your mistakes, how to get better, and how to reach higher levels in your industry.
Let me tell you about the traders you see on social media posting Lambos and penthouses.
Most of them are lying.
Not all. But most.
Here's how I know: I've been doing this for 16 years. I know what it actually takes.
And what you're seeing doesn't match the timeline.
Someone's been trading for 2 years. Posting exotic cars. Designer everything. "Living the dream."
The math doesn't work.
To afford that lifestyle from trading, you need years of compounding. And consistent edge.
Two years? You're still learning. Still paying tuition through losses.
You're not buying Lamborghini's. You're lucky if you're breakeven.
But they post the lifestyle anyway. Why?
Because the lifestyle sells. The trading doesn't.
They make more money from course sales, affiliate links, and sponsorships than they ever made trading.
You're the product. Not the customer.
I was in Miami last week. Nice condo. Ocean view. My friend's place.
I could’ve posted this and said "look at my Miami penthouse!"
But I didn’t. Because it's not mine. And I'm not trying to sell you a dream.
I'm showing you reality.
My first million took 3 years of brutal grinding. Waking up at 4:30am when nobody was watching.
The eight-figure years came after a decade of foundation building.
This isn't a 2-year journey. It's a 10+ year commitment.
And anyone telling you different is selling you something.
The Lambos. The watches. The "retired at 25" narrative.
It's marketing. Not trading.
Real traders are boring. We wake up early. We trade the same setups. We follow the same rules.
For years. Decades.
We don't post every trade. We don't flex constantly.
We just execute. Day after day. Year after year.
That's what builds real wealth.
I'm not posting Lambos. I'm posting the discipline that made it possible.
4:30am wake-ups for 16 years straight. That's the content nobody wants to make.
Because it doesn't get likes. It doesn't sell courses.
But it's the truth.
You want to know if a trader is real? Look at their timeline.
If they've been trading less than 5 years and living like a billionaire, they're lying.
Either they inherited money. They're funded by someone else. Or they're selling courses.
They're not making it from trading. Because trading doesn't work that fast.
I don't care how talented you are. The market humbles everyone.
It takes years to build the psychology. The discipline. The edge.
You can't shortcut it with a course. You can't fake it with a rented Lambo.
You have to put in the time. The losses. The humbling experiences.
That's what builds a career.
Remember that when the Twitter traders tell you otherwise.
@nhfortini I absolutely love the Mark Minervini reference! One of the first books I picked up when learning to trade. The guy is a master! Such insight in his books.
@timothysykes Well, it's ironic since he credits your videos with inspiring him to trade. He mentions that he pirated the videos and pushed on with trading because of you.
In the book "Trading in the Zone," Mark Douglas says the difference between the best traders and other traders is "Not being afraid."
I know so many traders who live in fear, overreact to every little tick, have very little conviction in what they are doing, etc. and all this negatively affects their results. The most important thing you can work on as a trader is your mindset.
"The best traders aren’t afraid. They aren’t afraid because they have developed attitudes that give them the greatest degree of mental flexibility to flow in and out of trades based on what the market is telling them about the possibilities from its perspective."
"The winners have attained a mindset—a unique set of attitudes—that allows them to remain disciplined, focused, and, above all, confident in spite of the adverse conditions. As a result, they are no longer susceptible to the common fears and trading errors that plague everyone else."
@alphatrends I have most of these books and read them, including yours, and that is a solid line up!!! Such a good mix of technicals, fundamentals, and psychology.
@TrendSpider Definitely what's going to happen! At the trend line and support, so the bounce is given and then it will confirm the head and shoulders. So obvious 😎
@InvestorsLive You're 100% right since it's exactly what was happening to me before I sold everything and cashed out. It came quick and was going even quicker!
I have an MBA and my upbringing wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. I had one person I looked up to and that was my grandfather (business owner, successful). My parents were broke and I built everything I have to today. Unfortunately, they were likely within this statistic. I believe that if it wasn't for the one catalyst of change (my grandfather), I wouldn't be we're I am.
If every child had that one person they wanted to emulate in life, that number would be well below 60%.
