Hadhreen extends its deepest condolences to the Khartoum Marine Scouts Group, and to the family and community of the late Hamed Murtada, a dedicated member of the humanitarian and voluntary sector.

Hamed was among the most committed within the Marine Scouts, consistently present across a wide range of humanitarian efforts, from rapid emergency response interventions aimed at mitigating the impact of natural disasters, to community support and recreational initiatives, as well as awareness campaigns addressing key social issues.

His passing is a profound loss to many, including children battling cancer, those without parental care, and residents of juvenile care homes, all of whom experienced his compassion, generosity, and tireless dedication.

We extend our heartfelt sympathies to his family, colleagues, and all those who worked alongside him, and honor his lasting contributions to humanitarian service.

Today, with a heavy heart, I mourn the loss of Hamid Murtada — a young Sudanese who embodied the promise of his generation.

A child of the 2019 Revolution, Hamid represented the Sudan so many believed in: principled yet pragmatic, grounded in history yet firmly oriented toward the future. He hailed from the deeply patriotic El Mahdi family — a lineage woven into Sudan’s national story — and he carried that legacy not as entitlement, but as responsibility.

I met him only a few times, but he was not someone one needed to know for long. His clarity of purpose, generosity of spirit, and quiet determination spoke immediately. He was among those young Sudanese doing the hardest work of all — refusing despair, and insisting on a future for their country.

His passing is a profound loss — to his family, and to Sudan. At the time of his untimely death, he was a PhD student at the University of Manchester.

It is also an indictment of this brutal war — a war that is systematically robbing Sudan of its best, stealing the future from its young, and cutting short lives that carried the country’s hope. And yet, even under these conditions, young Sudanese like Hamid chose to resist — to think, to build, to hope.

As the Sudanese say:
“السمح سمح ولو كان تحت الرماد” — “What is good remains good, even beneath the ashes.”

And in this moment, one is reminded of the words of Jalāl ad-Dīn Rūmī:
“Where there is destruction, there is hope for a treasure.”

Hamid lived that truth — a life of promise, purpose, and quiet courage that will endure beyond his years.

This is not only a moment of grief — it is a moment of reckoning.
If Sudan is to have a future, it will be because the dreams of young people like Hamid are not buried with them, but carried forward with urgency and resolve.

May his soul rest in peace.
May his family find strength and solace.
And may Sudan find the courage to become the country he believed it could be.

في ذكرى محبة للراحل حامد مرتضى كمال خلف الله

بقلوب يعتصرها الحزن، ننعي رحيل حامد خلف الله، الذي كان حضوره بالنسبة لأندريا أكبر بكثير مما يمكن أن تحتويه الكلمات.

قبل كل شيء، كان حامد سنداً لنا، حاضراً في بداياتنا المترددة، حين كانت الأمور تتشكل. كان حضوره بدافع الاهتمام الصادق، مقدماً لنا الدعم والمساندة، ومؤمناً بنا، وموفراً لنا إيماناً رافقنا طوال السنوات.

من خلال هذه العلاقة الوثيقة، أصبح حامد ركناً أساسياً في أندريا. في الأيام الأولى، حين كانت الرؤية لا تزال غير مكتملة، بذل حامد وقته وجهده وثقته. لسنوات، دعمنا ونصحنا وترجم وساهم في عملنا دون أن يطلب شيئاً في المقابل، إيماناً منه بما كنا نبنيه.

لقد شكّل ذكاء حامد ولطفه وتواضعه وقوته الراسخة أندريا بطرق لا تقاس. إن غيابه مؤلم بعمق، ليس فقط لما قدمه، بل لما كان يمثله لكل من سار معه في هذه الرحلة.

نتقدم بأحر التعازي إلى عائلته وأصدقائه وكل من تشرف بمعرفته.

ما زلت عاجزا عن تصديق رحيل حامد خلف الله.

جمعتنا في البداية مساحة أكاديمية ومهنية، بحكم عملي وإهتمامي بالسودان. لكن مع حامد كان من الصعب أن يبقى التواصل مهنيا فقط. كان في شخصيته ما يجعلك تنجذب إليه، وترغب في معرفته أكثر، وتشعر بالإمتنان لأنك حظيت بصداقته.

لم أعرفه إلا خلال السنة الماضية، لكنها كانت كفيلة بأن يترك في نفسي أثرا لا يمحى - فقد كنا نتراسل يوميا. كان حامد من أطيب الأرواح التي عرفتها؛ ذكيا، صادقا، نبيلا، كريما بوقته، ودافئ الحضور. كان من ذلك الصنف النادر من الناس الذين تشعر بحسن الحظ لأن الحياة جمعتك بهم.

من أجمل ما جمعنا أننا كنا نتبادل الرسائل عن العادات السودانية والليبية: التفاصيل الصغيرة، الطعام، الطقوس، العادات، الكلمات، المزاح، وما يجعل مجتمعاتنا مختلفة ومتشابهة في آن واحد... عرفت السودان من خلاله، وتعرف هو على ليبيا من خلالي.

لا أستغرب هذا السيل العارم من الحزن على رحيله. فقد كان حامد يحمل السودان في قلبه، ويحمل ثورته، وقضيته، و تطلعاته و توق شعبه للحرية و الكرامة أينما ذهب. محبته للسودان كانت معدية، فقد كانت جزءاً من روحه، ومن المعنى الذي عاش به ومعه.

حامد، كما عرفته، لا يحب الحزن. بل يصعب علي أن أتذكر لحظة رأيته فيها و الإبتسامة لا تزين وجهه البشوش، رغم كل ما كان يحمله من أعباء، وما مر به من إبتلاءات ومواجع. لذلك لا أريد أن أثقل عليه بالحزن، ولا أن أودعه بما كان سيضيق به صدره... لكن الفقد كبير، والغياب موجع، وهذا الرحيل أصعب من أن يستقبل إلا بقلب مكسور.

بعض الناس لا يحتاجون إلى زمن طويل كي يتركوا أثرا عميقا، و أنا على بقين أن حامد ترك في كل من عرفه أو إحتك به شيئا من لطفه، و نبله، و صدقه، و صفاء روحه.

أسأل الله أن يغفر له ويرحمه رحمة واسعة، وأن يرفع مقامه و منزلته في عليين، وأن يسكنه الفردوس الأعلى، وأن يربط على قلوب أهله وأحبابه، ويلهمهم الصبر والسكينة.

إنا لله وإنا إليه راجعون.

He was a brilliant mind, brave and courageous, and one of the finest Sudanese youths of his generation. Those who knew him, or even encountered his words, could easily feel his sincerity, honesty, and deep commitment to truth. He is a great loss!
