When the main rotor blades spin at a speed that perfectly matches (or is a harmonic multiple of) the camera’s frame rate, each frame captures the blades in nearly the exact same position as the previous one.
This is the same stroboscopic (or wagon-wheel) effect you see in videos when car wheels appear to spin the wrong way. The blades are still slicing the air at hundreds of RPM; the camera is simply “sampling” their position at a rate that creates perfect visual aliasing.
