Toni Morrison said that if a book you want to read hasn’t been written yet, you must be the one to write it. Voice often starts there—in the story only you can tell, told the way only you would tell it. What’s yours? #IndieAuthor#AuthorLife#WIP
What's a classic you've read that nobody has heard of? Did you love it, or will you forget it too? My book club is reading Kristin Lavransdatter by Sigrid Undset this summer, & we agreed part 1 was like watching a trainwreck. Curious if there's redemption in the end! #amreading
As storytellers, we get to give people hope that they can change and be the person they want to be--but only if we're willing to put our stories themselves through the same process. Link in the replies.
I love this idea. Teach the algorithm good and beautiful things instead of negativity and strife, and create a better future.
What did you find beautiful today? I stopped mid sentence while writing to stare at a particularly fluffy white cloud in a bright blue sky.
Dear good folks;
Just as the algorithm is “listening in” to our complaints arising from our fears (culture wars), lurid obsessions (ads!) and destructive emotions (bullying), it is also tuning into our cares, our loves and what we desire for the next generations. How about if we create intentional communities to speak of such loves and share beauty on this platform? Such is the path of #culturecare. By having conversations out-loud of generative fruit of our lives, we can train the algorithm to seek out our future state of beings as well. What we invoke can create a future we desire or actualize what we fear. @iamculturecare
Read “Culture Care: Reconnecting with Beauty for our Common Life” (2nd edition with foreword by David Brooks @IVPbookcentre) for more on these generative thoughts.

At least I'll be able to manually catch it if it happens again... because I'll be posting regular writing tips again! While Substack will have my long weekly posts, my blog will have monthly practical tips for writers again. #amwriting#amediting

Very frustrated. I was on my website dashboard yesterday and caught that over the last few years, not every inquiry was actually getting sent to my inbox. To those who reached out for editing help on a project and didn't hear back, I'm so sorry! I had no idea some were missed.
@tspadventure That's smart! I think this was still Twitter last time I used it regularly, so I still have to look around and see what has changed and what's the same. Thank you for the suggestion!
I've been off social media (other than my personal FB) for a while as I prioritized other things, which turned out to be a great decision. Now that I'm doing more writing alongside my editing, I'm poking my head out to see if any platforms are a good fit for where I'm at. (1/2)
I was hoping I'd find someone sharing some Juneteenth books today and wasn't disappointed. Reposting so I don't lose this list and also in case anyone else is interested. Let me know about any books (especially history) that you would add to the list!
Juneteenth commemorates the day the last enslaved people were emancipated in the United States on June 19, 1865. Explore memoirs, cookbooks, fiction, and more stories that honor history and celebrate Black community and joy. https://t.co/E0Lr375a30
As storytellers, we want our stories to have an impact on our audience—to resonate deeply with them, or to change how they understand the world around them. Here's one way we can start to understand how and why a story becomes impactful.

For those of you who read on Substack, what are some of your favorites there? I just started exploring it this week in preparation for getting back into article-writing.
@AbigailFalanga I love that you recommended Celestial Seasonings! 😍 I enjoyed theirs growing up, but the friends who first introduced me to loose-leaf yes refused to drink it because they saw a quality difference. It took me a while to go back to it again, but there's nothing wrong with it.
Coffee is great, but I'm a "books & tea" person. This blueberry green tea has been my go-to this summer, & I'm sipping it now to chase away the tail end of a migraine & get back to work. Tea friends, what's your favorite bagged tea? Sometimes I'm feeling too lazy for loose-leaf.
