THE DEEP POWER OF CALM AND NON-REACTION

The culture of a place; the dynamic of an environment; the atmosphere within a space. These are the first signals we pick, when we enter a new environment. Most people’s response is reactionary. Non-reactive people are unique. They carry their own atmosphere with them - an inner steadiness that is rare in a reactive world.

Every day presents opportunities to absorb someone else’s mood — an obnoxious friend, an insensitive family member, child tantrums or a customer’s impatience. We could unintentionally begin to reflect the chaos around us. Imagine intentionally accommodating a difficult and rude client or that person who quickly takes up that spot you had obviously been waiting on in a parking lot, whilst the original user backed out. But you remained calm and responded with peace, instead of blowing up. You maintain your perspective and win the respect of others around.

Peace is not something we stumble into; it is something we prepare for. When we decide, ahead of time, not to let circumstances dictate our attitude, we protect our wellbeing and influence others for good. Choosing calm over a rash reaction does not just impress people, it grows and blesses us from the inside out.
