🎓 "O’Neill introduced a host of academy youngsters at the break.
"Liam Kennedy, 17, came into the midfield alongside Kyle Ure. Wide-man Hatton got an opportunity, too, as Francis Turley was introduced at right-back.
"Kennedy sat as Celtic’s deepest midfielder in the second half and fizzed an effort just wide of the post not long after the hour mark. He impressed, as did Ure slightly further forward.
"Seventeen-year-old Joseph Haney started at left-back and made a number of smart passes into the attacking third. He audibly received instructions from Shaun Maloney on the touchline to get forward.
"The youngster was almost caught out towards the end of the first half but recovered adequately to poke the ball behind for a Shelbourne corner."

Celtic fans, would you take Lennon miller? I don’t see why we couldn’t get him. Need a winger and his value would’ve dropped after last season, Scottish and knows the league. Great signing in my opinion @CelticFC#celtic

Celtic are set to lose yet another of their best academy prospects as Dara Jikiemi heads for Liverpool., that leaves the question of… where does this leave the Celtic academy?
Since Brexit we’ve saw the vast majority of our top talents leave before they’ve had the opportunity to establish themselves at the club.
Doak, Jikiemi & Hughes to Liverpool, Borland to Aston Villa, Glancy to Spurs & Adam to Man City to name a few.
There’s two big issues here & it’s almost reached the stage that it’s becoming a bit of a catch-22.
It’s well documented that Celtic aren’t the best of clubs for young players to be given an opportunity & that’s sad to see.
However, at the same time our best players who would be the ones good enough to be given those opportunities are leaving almost as soon as they can partially because they see no pathway but also due to English sides stockpiling UK talent following Brexit.
What I will say on this is that Celtic have done this in Scotland for a long time as well.
IF Celtic could guarantee a pathway then maybe we’d see less of this. Ben Doak is the outlier, he had a pathway at the club but away from that there isn’t many.
There’s a lot of folk out there now of the opinion we’re developing players for other clubs & you know what, they’ve actually got a decent case for that argument.
Even when Celtic have played lower level opponents, Auchinleck Talbot for example we haven’t really saw any opportunities given.
Colby Donovan has managed to break in to the side following injuries to Johnston & Ralston, hopefully we can see more of him in certain fixtures.
Zion Pullan is the next major talent breaking through at Celtic, already a youth international at Scotland he was called up by Spain for their U15 squad having been born there.
Pullan turns 16 in February & you’ve got to fear the worst that will come with another transfer to England or perhaps even Spain.
Summary:
There remains two issues with the academy - not a clear enough pathway & English sides picking off the best talent.
The players you’re looking at as the ones you see breaking through are racing down the M74 as soon as the clock strike midnight on their 16th birthday.
It’s up to the club to show incentives for these players to stay & that they’ll be given the opportunity to stake their claim for a place in the first team.
