4) I was a control freak and thought it was just good classroom management.
5) Students will do more if you set the bar higher.
6) I was giving WAY too much time for formative assessments/check ins - and the students let me do it to waste time #lol.
To be continued!
#thingsteleschooltaught me:
1) I wasn't avoiding technology "because sometimes pencil to paper is better". I was avoiding it because it overwhelmed me.
2) I love giving a high five when a kid gets it.
3) Roughly 34% of my energy used to go to my hand gestures while speaking.
A student who's ahead with his work joined our live Teams session anyways, and just talked, laughed, showed his haircut, and shared how much he's changed since last year. I've taught him for 2 years and it was so special to catch up and laugh. I just love these kids! #thankful
Got to see some of my @GO_1stStep Cohort 1 grads on a Zoom call with @ProfessrFrancis today! Fulton has truly supported me and provided me with an amazing mentor, which has been more important than ever these days #gofirststep#fcsrising
Set up @Flipgrid for the first time and using it to have kids send in "Check In" videos to kick off the morning. Can't believe I didn't use this sooner, so user-friendly! #betterlatethannever
Didn't know how much I needed to see my team yesterday❤️ Sure, we got some good work done, but I also enjoyed just talking and seeing some of the people I'm most thankful for!
Sitting outside enjoying the sounds of nature as we have our interdisciplinary team meeting through @MicrosoftTeams. We are family. We are missing our students and are concerned for all. #HearUsRoar#grateful @CLCRidgeview @ela_shepherd@boddifordteach ❤️❤️
Felt like I was a tutor instead of a teacher last week, so one solution was adding a "schedule" to our Help Session Teams call this morning. Morning check in, teacher-led review of our text, work time, & class chat with a team builder. Wasn't perfect, but it helped our work flow!
Week 3 of TeleSchool kicked off with seeing some of my students from almost all of my classes via Microsoft Teams. You would have thought I won the lottery with how excited I got each time a new student joined!
@AustinPaquita @CLCRidgeview @MicrosoftTeams Thank you for saying so! It has been a few weeks I never could have imagined, but I am very thankful to be in a place like Ridgeview with my coworkers!
Week 1 #teleschool thoughts:
1) Good co-workers take a great job and make it incredible. Seeing @CLCRidgeview on @MicrosoftTeams made me miss mine!
2) Technology is an amazing tool & I needed to be using it way before now.
3) We all want consistency.
4) I LOVE being a teacher.
5) New teachers-we need to stop selling ourselves short. (Speaking mostly to myself here). Being the only one in my working space has forced me to trust what I know and figure it out if I don't. Ask for help, do some research, and go for it!
Making the most out of TeleSchool with coworkers has been fun. Just left an InstagramLive that @boddifordteach hosted. Is this the start of something really awesome at @CLCRidgeview ?! #relationshipsmatter#fcsrising
