Honored to finally announce the best news I’ve gotten in my PhD so far- I have been awarded the NINDS F99/K00 D-SPAN!!!! My first fellowship(!) & first grant of many as I work towards starting my own lab investigating neural mechanisms of visceral pain. (Thread!!)
i am thrilled to announce that the Grmai Lab will open its doors Jan 2025 in the Department of Comparative Medicine @YaleSOM !
our lab will study the complex inter-organ signaling cues that influence metabolism and fertility during homeostasis and stress.
We are back with Black In Neuro Week 2024 🤓🧠. Mark for your calendars 🗓️ for July 29th to August 4th for a week of BIN events for our community and allies! Stayed tuned for more details as we get closer to #BINW24
@dissel_lab I'm pretty sure Vishnu Cuddapah in my (Amita Sehgal's lab) has, but he is twitter/X-less. I'm 100% sure for seizures and 90% sure for sleep, so it may be worth reaching out to him
In this week’s Editors’ Choice piece, we highlight the work of Haynes and colleagues in @NatureNeuro, showing that glia detoxify neurotoxic lipids on a sleep-wake cycle, promoting healthy sleep.

Our paper is finally out!! We found new roles of sleep + wake in processing the brain's lipid damage (see @paulahyns post!). I hope this work inspires a greater shift in Alzheimer's disease research towards the contributions of sleep and lipid transfer dysfunction
Drosophila glia have a daily cycle of mitochondrial oxidation and lipid accumulation that is dependent on prior wake and requires APOE orthologs for neuron–glia lipid transfer. This may allow neurons to avoid accumulation of oxidative damage during wake
