Because nothing else has beennear the same magnitude of danger to warrant the need for super sonic. We've had the zeti, followed by everything with surge and kit, the egg city, clean sweep and a battle with eggman. Literally nothing here has elicited the need for super sonic.

Blaze on the other hand was caught off guard and made sure no one was hurt by surges lightning or her own flames, this is just their characterization
