Just about it from us for this year. Thanks so much to the 11,687(!) people who signed up to play FGE 2024

Otherwise, see you back here in 2029 👋
Team of the Season
Selection rules meant that a few attackers had to miss out, while a few defenders were probably fairly lucky to make it in, but here's our best XI for the 2024 general election:
Party of the Year
Liberal Democrats
22 candidates in this year's top 50, and 5 in the top 10
Impressive performance all round from @EdwardJDavey and the @LibDems
Something pretty impressive about the fact that 11,697 people signed up to play Fantasy General Election 2024, and all of them except one were beaten by a 16 year old 😅
A few people have been in touch to ask about points for defeating independents, so here's a quick reminder of the rules:
You *do* get extra points for defeating an independent MP, but only if the independent is actually standing in the election.
For example, if Labour had beaten Jeremy Corbyn in Islington North, there would have been extra points there - because he was contesting the election.
But there are no extra points for winning Reigate, because the independent MP had stood down. In effect, they had unseated themselves.
Hope that helps 🙂
Just mulling something over for next time.
Would it be better if we waited until all the results are in, and then updated the leaderboard in one go?
Could maybe do a live stream or something to go with it.
Or do you prefer them drip-fed on the night?
@bezthespaniard No extra points for any them I'm afraid. You can't unseat an independent if they've already stood down, and Newcastle NE & Wallsend is a new seat, so notionally a Labour hold
