@YeFutureSaint@LizzieMarbach Yes, in the same way that James says we are justified by works and that faith without works is dead. We are not saved by words or confession alone. But faith alone yes. Because faith is not faith without works(i.e. fruit) being seen.
@TheMuppetPastor@ProvisionistP evangelizing directly. The evangelization he talks about is basically the indirect men will see your good works and glorify God. This is great, but they also need to be preached the good news as Paul encourages.
@TheMuppetPastor@ProvisionistP Gavin is aware that the EO view of salvation is different and starts this clip by arguing that the historic protestant view is actually a lot closer to the EO view of salvation than the more modern evangelical saved once at a point. The clip does show he is less concerned about..
@ShadyErnest3@Bobburgersfan1@McJuggerNuggets Fine we'll just call it legal baby dismemberment. Parents do not have a right to just kill their kids. Thats what you're arguing for.
@malachiobrien@MikeWingerii It might be helpful to note that when Mike called something out as a lie and the person as a liar he was specific saying that he lied about going to church. Your accusation is non specific. What has Mike lied about? He has explained numerous times he is happy to correct falsehood
@Verita_dirigit1 Authority sure, but not necessarily primacy. It seems clear that instead if Rome and the churches in the East had the disagreement that they might say the same about the African churches since they would be in the position to settle the debate.
@phtevenstrong@WesleyLHuff@MikhailaFuller The context here suggests that Paul is actually disapproving of this practice. He contrasts it with prophecy and building up self vs. the church. He says in verse 10 that there are many different languages and none are without meaning; therefore tongues should be intelligible.
@Verita_dirigit1@HwsEleutheroi "Augustine was commenting on the authority of the pope and the fact that councils of the Church are authoritative only if approved by the bishop of Rome." This statement is proven false if you read the sermon and understand its historical context.
@AbolitionWomen@MikeWingerii It is not creating contingent worth. They believe that charging a mother would be counterproductive and lead to multiple victims. This is wrongheaded certainly because murder is murder no matter who does it. I just think we should be careful when attributing motive.
@AbolitionWomen@MikeWingerii This is not a charitable reading of the intent of pro lifers. Even generally the "pro life establishment". They do not believe the babies worth is contingent upon the mother's will. They err in exempting mothers from any punishment and effectively minimize the child's worth, but
@garrettham_esq@LizzieMarbach Fine, I reject the infallibility of the Roman church and pontiff because over time there have been contradictory teachings that have both been regarded as infallible. Also, there are novel teachings that are regarded as infallible, which when analyzed historically lack support.
@garrettham_esq@LizzieMarbach If you agree that scripture is an infallible, divinely inspired source then the burden falls on you to say what the other inspired source is and why it is. That's why you don't usually see the dual authority claim in a criticism against sola scriptura because it shifts the burden
@GuerillaLawyer@cedie_ii44635@needGod_net Sorry my curiosity got the best of me. I didn't say you strawmanned anything. I didn't even say you made a point. I simply responded to your question with an argument taken from Romans and Hebrews. Good luck though.
