UK retail sales improved in the year to November, according to the latest CBI distributive trends survey, after six months of declines.

Lending practices at H&T, the largest pawnbroker in Britain, are being investigated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

The latest figures from the Bank of England have shown that mortgage approvals were up last month as buyers sought to complete purchases before October 31st. Some 65,919 mortgages for house purchases were approved in September, up from a three-month low of 65,681 in August.
Building firms are holding off hiring new staff amid continuing political uncertainty. The FMB Survey found the number of small construction companies reporting a growing workforce had fallen, with 23% reporting they had reduced their headcount.
