The uglification of the world is something that grinds my gears every single day.

Buildings, paintings, fashion, public art, cars, home exteriors, children's books, high streets, even McDonald is at it.

Seemingly everything has to be made uglier, blander and more soulless.

We used to create things that inspired wonder & imagination.
*Going to Florence last year made me realise just how important & soul enriching it is to see beautiful stuff when you're walking around*

Now we live in a world flooded with Corporate Memphis "art"

The hideous, brightly coloured illustrations with faceless people, absurdly long limbs and bodies shaped like abstract blobs. The visual equivalent of a corporate HR department saying, “We’re fun!”

It makes me so depressed, but I think that is the point of it.

Cats understand death. If the cat’s person dies and the cat is not able to confirm the death, the cat may continue to wait, look for their person, or even grieve themselves to death.

It’s very important that the cat be able to spend a few moments with the dead person. When one of our kitties passes, we have a wake. We lay the body on a blanket and let the other kitties pay their respects. They will all come, usually one at a time. They will stand over their dead friend and stare. They will usually sniff and maybe lick. When they walk away, they know.

We learned the hard way that if a cat dies at the vet’s office we have to bring the body home for a wake. One of the male cats lost his brother and we failed to bring the body home. He screamed and cried for months looking for him. He eventually got so stressed that he got sick and died himself.

Cats tend to form a very special bond with their person. They choose who that person is. They may never completely recover from the loss of their person. Being able to confirm the finality of death makes the process much easier.
