Yesterday, I was offered an exciting opportunity and when I emailed my PhD mentor to let him know, he said congratulations and then asked:
What will you take off your plate so they get the best you?
Wow. Great mentors ask the tough questions that you need to hear.
So glad that this CE course on teaching yoga to #OlderAdults with @YogaAlliance is strating out with the GOOD stuff about aging! Jenny Loftus is sharing about the self-acceptance found as we age—we saw this in the @ElevateAging project too! #ResistAgeism#ElevateAging
Here’s another of our #ElevateAging cards, designed by @CACollegeofArts students in the TBD Design Program for @ElderCareAll headed across the ocean to Germany via @postcrossing We wonder how many hands the card will pass through as it raises awareness about #Ageism ?
One of our approaches to addressing #ageism at @eldercareall is intergenerational collaboration. How do we remain engaged in this work when we cannot bring groups of students inside buildings with older adults right now? 1 way: Sending the @ElevateAging cards via @postcrossing
Thank you very much, @exitthelemming for your mention of Unmute in The Times this morning. I agree we wrote the lockdown. I wish we knew what it meant. Linnet is 17.
@nursesKidONE @DementiaView @DiverseAlz@Shedfieldlodge@Dembkclub@skillsforcare I’ve run reading for well-being groups for people with dementia where I have often employed poetry. Poetry enables sharing of opinions, interpretations and feelings rather than relying on memory and sharing of facts. Much enjoyment has ensued
If you have been thinking of volunteering your time this holiday season, why not sign up for a friendly visiting program or as a volunteer at a Skilled Nursing Facility? Making a connection with someone is a wonderful gift - and better yet, it works both ways! #ErasingBoundaries
Really appreciate Shireen McFadden calling out terms like “silver tsunami” and asking that all of us dedicated to this issue be mindful of our language and framing - this is a social justice issue & when we raise up older adults we take a step toward solution. #bepartoftheplan
"One of the biggest mistakes designers make is to assume that around the age of 60 people lose interest in aesthetics and design...No one wants to stick a golf-ball-size hearing aid the color of chewed gum in their ear." #design#DesignChallenge https://t.co/xco45B44VO
So many of the words & images in our news & pop culture stay at the superficial level...but our depth & potential for growth does not stop as we age. #ElevateAging#FightAgeism#Ageism
This new project invites older adults to create content to share on social media about topics we can all connect to. When asked about her hope for the world, this #OlderAdult participant wished more people had access to #ArtTherapy#ShareAllArt
The images we share about & including #OlderAdults have the ability to shift our conversation about aging. Check out some of the fabulous images created by a @CACollegeofArts student as part of our work to #ElevateAging#CALAElevate
We can choose to share images of confident, self-assured older adults. The images & words we associate with aging matter. #FightAgeism#ElevateAging (Interested in these images & at @CALAVoiceofAL this week? Ask someone from @ElderCareAll )
So much public dialogue happens on social media; our project invites #OlderAdults to get involved--first on paper & then here on Twitter. Here's an eloquent statement & illustration representing one participant's concerns about plastic microspheres in the ocean. #SaveOurOcean
We recently launched a project inviting #OlderAdults to create content to share with the world on social media. Here is one person's response to the prompt: "Hope for the World" #ShareAllArt
