The hypocrisy of this world is staggering.
russia a state waging a brutal war, responsible for killing civilians, rape, torture and the kidnapping of Ukrainian children is allowed to compete under the very flag and anthem under which these crimes are committed!
Those who made this decision should be held accountable and removed from their positions. @Paralympics
Can you imagine 20,000 Ukrainian children have been illegally sent to Russia and Belarus!
20.000 children, just say it loud. It’s almost full Euroborg or Gelredome stadium…
Ukrainian Paralympians were banned from wearing these jackets with a map of Ukraine from 1991, considering it political. Just think about it! A map of Ukraine with officially recognized territories that russia is trying to take away.
In another photo, russian olympians in 2022 are wearing jackets with a geographical map of russia!
Another double standards and hypocrisy @Paralympics@iocmedia
What’s next? A ban on the colors yellow and blue?
Disgrace.
Disgusting 🤮
Another low point of @FIDE_chess
FIDE has restored Sergey Karjakin to its official rating list. He returned to the world’s top 10 after winning a private match against an eight-year-old opponent rated 1549. Suspended since 2022 for publicly supporting Russia’s war in Ukraine, Karjakin now serves as a senator representing occupied Crimea and remains under EU sanctions.
11 years ago, Boris Nemtsov was killed just steps away from the Kremlin - one of the most prominent opposition leaders in russia.
No evidence. No video. No real investigation. No justice.
Just listen to his wise words.
My hometown Kostiantynivka…
putin: "russia is acting in Ukraine in a surgical manner, very carefully. This is not a war in the direct, modern sense of the word."
4 a.m. I have no sleep in my eyes. Exactly four years ago, russia barbarically attacked Ukraine. This bloody war, started by putin, has been going on for four years.
I remember that morning of 24.02.2022 when I opened the first message on social media, I couldn’t believe it was real. I sat on the bed, frozen, stupidly staring at my phone.
I remember the fear, the confusion, the disbelief, and the nausea I felt. I pinched myself to make sure I wasn’t dreaming.
To be honest, I was in denial about everything that was happening. I didn’t believe it was real, but somewhere deep inside I understood that something terrible and immense was happening.
Around 5 a.m., putin announced the start of the “special military operation.” I think that at that moment no one truly understood what that meant. In reality, it was simply a declaration of war against a so-called “brotherly people.”
Was Ukraine ready for war? No, of course not.
Then came an enormous number of russian missiles, planes, and helicopters over Ukrainian territory; shelling and killings; looting and rape of Ukrainian civilians; bombings of power plants, airports, kindergartens, and schools.
Bucha, Hostomel, Irpin, Mariupol, Avdiivka, Bakhmut, Volnovakha, Vovchansk, Kherson, Dnipro, Odesa, Kharkiv. “Kyiv in three days,” “demilitarization”, “denazification”, Azovstal, Snake Island, the staging of pseudo-referendums and the annexation of the DPR, LPR, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions into russia…
There were countless phone calls to relatives, friends, and acquaintances in Ukraine and in russia. I couldn’t believe that people in russia could support the war. Sadly, I was wrong. putin is not just one man. He is the collective consciousness of russian imperialism, multiplied by propaganda and the narrative of “rising from our knees” that is what modern russia is today.
Thinking citizens of russia found the courage to leave the country. The majority either supports putin or pretends that nothing is happening.
Four years of war. Hundreds of thousands of lives. Cities wiped off the face of the earth. Ukraine lives under constant pressure from russia. The so-called “peace talks” are a farce an attempt by the American president to tick another box on the list of “wars stopped.”
I am more than sure that if Europe and America had been more decisive from the start, this war would have ended long ago. putin understands only the language of force a language Europe has forgotten over the past 80 years. Only now has Europe realized how to speak to a dictator. Freedom and independence must be fought for. And right now, Ukraine is defending European values and principles.
A lesson for Ukraine: if you want peace, prepare for war.
I believe and hope that Ukraine will be an independent, European country with democratic values. Over these four years, people have realized that no one wants to live in the Soviet past, under the dictatorship of the russian empire. Now the country is trying to break free from the grip of a bloody dictator. Yes, russia is our neighbor yes, a crazy neighbor and by fate we will have to border it. The only path for Ukraine is to build a strong state.
And for now, please help Ukraine in any way you can 🙏🏽
Glory to Ukraine ❤️🇺🇦
I stand with the Paralympians and everything they represent.
However, first allowing Russia and Belarus to return and now granting a wild card and fast-tracking participation without qualification? This is unacceptable.
While Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine continues, I cannot support the reinstatement of national symbols, flags, anthems and uniforms, that are inseparable from that conflict.
For this reason, I will not attend the @Paralympics Opening Ceremony.
I do so with respect for the athletes but with clarity about the principles at stake.
Sport unites when it stands on principle. It divides when it compromises them.
I call on my likeminded counterparts to take the same stand.
