For years, many Italian Americans and Chicagoans have been very vocal about how these statues should have NEVER been removed in the first place!

And let's not forget, Chicagoans, we've been talking about this and fighting for this for YEARS!

In fact, Italian American organizations have fought for years, even taking legal action, to have these statues returned!

So let me make myself clear.

We will NOT allow people to come here and erase our history! The history and contributions of the Italian American community deserve to be recognized and respected!

Newsom vetoed it.
