@scottlincicome All this because Trump and Navarro want to play ālittle gamesā with Canada and Carney. The impact of the tariffs and likely indirect urging for a Cleveland-Steel-owned steel facility closure in Hamilton, ON did not go unnoticed by Ottawa.
The UK's world-class research in science and technology relies on openness and international collaboration, but this creates vulnerabilities that foreign states ā particularly China ā can exploit.

When I posted this in March, many people pointed out that it did not include the labor impact of robotic systems combined with language models. Anthropic updated the chart in a report released this morning.
NEW: Russia conducted a massive combined drone and missile strike against Ukraine on the night of September 29 to 30, primarily targeting energy infrastructure in Kyiv City and marking the beginning of Russiaās strike campaign aimed at degrading Ukraineās energy security ahead of Winter 2026-2027 and forcing Ukraine to capitulate.
Russia notably began its Winter 2026-2027 strike campaign against Ukrainian infrastructure ahead of Ukraineās heating season, as Russian President Vladimir Putin likely recently adopted a modified theory of victory that relies on Russiaās long-range strike campaign to force Ukraine to surrender over Winter 2026-2027.
Other Key Takeaways:
A likely Russian drone violated Moldovan airspace and crashed near Hirbovat, Anenii Noi, on the morning of September 30.
The Kremlin is signaling its intention to use the seizure of assets belonging to European companies operating in Russia and to hold such companiesā assets hostage in order to coerce European states into reconsidering their sanctions policies against Russia.
Ukrainian forces recently advanced north of Sumy City.
Russian forces launched an unspecified number of Zircon or Onyx anti-ship cruise missiles, an unspecified number of Iskander-M or S-400 ballistic missiles, and 188 drones against Ukraine overnight on September 29 to 30, and 285 drones during the day, an unspecified number of ballistic missiles, and several Banderol or Dan-T loitering munitions during the day on September 30.
@RealPNavarro@RealPNavarro, Publicly crashing out because you look like an idiot to the potus, no actually you make the potus look weak on tv so now guess what, this is all on you my friend.
The US Bond Market (Bloomberg Agg) was down 2.6% in September.
In the past 30 years, only 5 months had a worse return:
1) September 2022: -4.3%
2) April 2022: -3.8%
3) July 2003: -3.4%
4) August 2022: -2.8%
5) March 2022: -2.8%
For the stock market, losing 2.6% in a month is a nonevent. But for the bond market, this is akin to a crash.
@EricDLombardi@LFairclo It is still pretty neat that you took the leap and contributed to the debate; thatās the beauty of the democratic process and the greatness of our way of life.
Well said Brandon, it is worth noting in this particular moment the following segments from the Farewell address of 1796, It is important, likewise, that the habits of thinking in a free country should inspire caution in those entrusted with its administration, to confine themselves within their respective constitutional spheres, avoiding in the exercise of the powers of one department to encroach upon another. The spirit of encroachment tends to consolidate the powers of all the departments in one, and thus to create, whatever the form of government, a real despotism; Against the insidious wiles of foreign influence (I conjure you to believe me, fellow-citizens) the jealousy of a free people ought to be constantly awake, since history and experience prove that foreign influence is one of the most baneful foes of republican government.

"As this nation remains disconnected from its republican path, the presence of non-interventionists in our political life and history are worth remembering," writes @CatoFP's @brandan_buck in @RStatecraft.

This is a huge story: UK's internal security service MI5 issued an unprecedented public criticism of China, warning that more than 100 academics linked to British entities have unwittingly helped China's espionage operations, and that continuing to work with that Chinese entity could lead to criminal charges.
This is perhaps the most aggressive public announcement from the UK towards China in decades. Too early to know if it signals a changing attitude from the government or is a test to see how Beijing responds -- either way, it's very significant.

@Ilkersezerrr This is excellent work, not sure how Canadian security intelligence could not make this before foreign investigative journalists. @gary_srp; a massive failure.
And this is early days when we can still distinguish the difference.
Daniel Robson wrote for some of Canadaās biggest conservative outlets. Dozens of pieces, always on deadline.
His columns took hard lines on immigration, protests, and foreign āenemies.ā
But Türkiye Todayās exclusive investigation found one problem: Daniel Robson doesnāt even exist.

NEW: Defectors from Iranian-backed Iraqi militia Asaib Ahl al Haq have formed a new armed group with āsignificantā Iranian support, according to the Washington Post on September 30. This report illustrates the obstacles that the Iraqi federal government will face in verifying the disarmament of Iranian-backed Iraqi militias.
Other Key Takeaways:
This breakaway militia may be operating under direct Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) control.
Several other Iranian-backed Iraqi militias have continued to refuse to disarm even as US-led international coalition forces withdrew from Iraq on September 30.
Kataib Hezbollah also urged all Iraqi militias on September 30 to halt all military operations, with the exception of operations targeting āhostile aircraftā until the Iraqi federal government secures air defense systems.
Iran is attempting to secure an agreement with the United States in which Iran would obtain some economic relief before easing restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz or making any nuclear concessions.
Saudi and Yemeni government-aligned forces are targeting Houthi military bases and missile launch platforms in Houthi-controlled areas of far northwestern Yemen, likely in an effort to degrade the Houthisā ability to attack Saudi Arabia.
Ukraineās greatest economic challenge is the blockade of the port of Odessa. Russian attacks have cut maritime traffic by 90 percent, preventing the export of major foreign currency earners and risking the loss of 10 percent of Ukraineās GDP.
If the port does not reopen, Ukraine faces an unsustainable trade imbalance that will further increase inflation and its budget deficit. https://t.co/XZCL6nkSrn
āWhere past decades were marked by pushing back on projects that excluded us from partnership or economic benefit, the current moment calls us to ask how we want to seize this moment in time, what we want to build, where we want to invest, and how our lands and resources could be leveraged for the greatest good. Simply put, Indigenous autonomy must be more than the right to say ānoā to projects; it must be exercised for the good of our communities, and the good of Canada,ā writes Karen Restoule (@karenrestoule) in @TheHillTimes.
