Back in the late 1st century BC, there was this incredible black queen named Amanirenas who led the Kushite army in a fierce battle against the Roman Empire. This showdown lasted five long years, from 27 BC to 22 BC, and thanks to her amazing skills, she stopped the Romans from expanding their territory into Kush, keeping her kingdom independent and strong. The Kingdom of Kush was located just south of Egypt, what we now know as Sudan.

Queen Amanirenas, who ruled from 40 BC to 10 BC, was totally fearless and known for her bravery, even after losing an eye in a fight. To show her power, she buried the head of a statue of Augustus Caesar under her temple, which was a bold way of telling her people they could walk all over Rome! With her leadership, she protected her kingdom and made sure the Romans didn’t get any further in their invasion. In one memorable moment, she even sent arrows to the Roman ruler, saying they could be a gesture of peace or a warning if he chose to challenge her. In the end, the Romans decided to back down and agreed to a peace deal, which started a time of prosperity for Kush under her rule.
