The point of Soulection Radio is to remind people that you can be DJing/creating in your bedroom one day or in the crowd at a Soulection show, and months/years later, you could be taking over the radio show & playing on a stage with us.
That's what it's all about.
To the older DJs please help these younger DJs out, show them support put them on game. I’ve been helping a few out and hearing the difference in their mixes and watching them rock a crowd is such a great feeling.
The state of DJing will continue to worsen b/c Gen Z DJs value aesthetic over authenticity. Gen Z prioritize what their social media feed looks like over how their DJ sets sound like. Forget 10,000 hours of practice. The only numbers Gen Z obsess over are followers, likes and dollar signs. Shit wasn’t like this when I was coming up. I’d spend 6-8 hours straight training, during the summer when my friends were out enjoying the sun, because the ONLY thing that mattered to me was honoring the natural gifts God gave me to alter sound. These new DJs ain’t built like that.
J.Cole used his platform to set an example of what GROWN people should be doing. Admitting when something is completely out of character & not losing yourself in what everyone wants to see. Y’all really not ready for that conversation though.
I say this every year. Please call a Uber, a friend, or stay at someone’s house if you aren’t capable of driving going into the new year. Pay that fee man, it’s worth it over these bad drivers especially on this particular day & it being a Sunday Funday.
