TAPPS Division 1 - District 1
Prestonwood Christian Academy-Plano @PCALionsFB
Head Coach: Donnie Yantis @donnieyantis
📝 2025 Outlook
Prestonwood Christian has established itself as a perennial TAPPS contender, and 2025 should be no different. Head coach Donnie Yantis enters his fourth season ready to chase a state championship with senior QB Luke Glass @LukeGlassQB leading the offense behind one of the deepest offensive lines in the state. That foundation sets the stage for another explosive year. On defense, the Lions return veteran anchors in the front seven along with enough experience across the roster to push for the district crown.
🔥 Things to Like
🔹 Elite QB play: The senior Glass, an East Texas A&M @Lions_FB commit, returns after a breakout 2024 campaign where he threw for nearly 3,000 yards and 30 touchdowns — all in his first season as a varsity starter. With a big arm and the ability to make every throw on the field, Glass has quickly established himself as one of TAPPS’ top signal-callers. Perhaps his most impressive stat was just one interception thrown all season, showcasing his poise, decision-making, and accuracy. Backing him up is 5⭐ long snapper and Texas @TexasFootball commit senior Trott O’Neal @trottoneal.
🔹 Best line in TAPPS football: PCA’s offensive front, led by all-state tackle Kaleb Kozloski @KalebKozloski, Plano HS Transfer and Air Force @AF_Football offered Brock Schlef @BrockSchlef, Kentucky @UKFootball offered Caanan Smith Canaan Smith @Canaan_Smith58, Colt Hillhouse @ColtHillhouse and 6’6 270 sophomore @SMUFB offered Abram Bengard @abrambengard, is regarded as the top line in private school football. Their size and next-level potential will give the Lions a physical advantage every week.
🔹 Reloaded defense with new faces and returning stars: The Lions’ defensive personnel has taken a big leap forward. Anna High School transfer and Rivals 3⭐ senior LB Kailer Pettijohn @kailerpettijohn and his younger brother junior Cam Pettijohn @Campettijohn bring edge, aggression, and a high motor to the linebacker corps. They join returning standouts AJ Morreale @AJ_Morreale9, Gabe Tyree @gabe_tyree_jr, Joshua Bengard @JoshuaBengard and transfer Ty Gildea Jr. — forming undoubtedly the top linebacker unit in TAPPS. In the secondary, transfers junior Camarious Avery @avery_camarious and senior Tobias Jensen @Tobi_Jensen_ provide immediate help and athleticism to solidify the back end of the defense.
👀 Things to Watch
🔹 Rebuilding the arsenal: With the departure transfers of Matthew McClain (@WSUCougarFB Commit), LJ Taylor (1st Team All-State), Jonathan French-Love and the graduation of key contributors, PCA loses nearly all of its offensive production from 2024. That puts the spotlight squarely on Glass, who will be working with a revamped group of weapons. Potential breakout receivers include Tyler Shaw @TylerShaw81, David Kniffen @junior_kniffen, Luke Lineberger @LukeLineberger and transfers Cooper Kirby @cooperkirby07 and Jovanni “Jio” Darrisaw @JovanniLeeDarri. In the backfield, William Taylor III @WillTaylor2026, a transfer from Episcopal School of Dallas, steps in as the primary ball carrier. The success of this entirely new unit will be critical to maintaining PCA’s offensive identity in 2025.
🔹 Underclassmen potential: While the Lions will lean heavily on their loaded senior class, a championship run will require key contributions from underclassmen to round out the roster. As noted in our Five You Should Know: 2029 Quarterbacks feature — which highlighted freshman QB Connor Chapman @connor5chapman — Coach Yantis has developed one of the strongest underclassmen groups in the state with a talented group of young prospects. Beyond the towering Bengard, players like sophomores RB Braden Bixler (1st Team All-District Track), LB/TE Brody Kernal @brody_kernal (6‘0 190), TE Cutter Likens (6’0 180), LB Ian Nunnenkamp @IanNunnenkamp (6’1 208), WR Vance Hernandez @vancehern2028 (6’2 180), along with freshmen WR/DE Elijah Moore @elipmoore (6’3 200) and TE Trevor Vitali @trevorvitali (6’0 180), are poised to not only contribute this fall, but also lay the foundation for PCA’s future success.
🔹 Depth in the trenches: Dominance at the line of scrimmage is a major strength for PCA — but also a potential vulnerability. While the starting offensive line is one of the best in the state, depth behind the top unit is thin. The same goes for the defensive front, where returning senior Eddie Brownstein @EddieBrownn14 and senior transfer Jaden Morris @JadenMorris2026 along with Hillhouse anchor a physical, disruptive group that can control games. Developing reliable backups will be key to sustaining success deep into the season.
