“Les yeux sont le miroir de l’âme” (the eyes are the mirror of the soul)…just as lipreading uses eyes to access words.
The French proverb, “lire les lèvres, c’est entendre avec les yeux…” translates as “…to read lips is to hear with the eyes…”
I think this is a succinct representation of lipreader friendship.
