Thanks, evangelicals, for restoring my belief in total depravity and my desire for retributive justice in the afterlife. I can’t say those were the aspects of my faith I was hoping to hang onto post-deconstruction, but I suppose it is what it is.
For those concerned that romance is dead, I just wanted to share that a man with no shirt on yelled “Hey lady” at me out of the open window of his jeep as he drove past me this afternoon.
This story is also illustrative of why the SBC still can't manage to "reckon" with the horrors & harms of its clergy sex abuse problem. Too many powerful men who have no clue what "reckoning" even means. #ThisistheSBC#SBCtoo
Many conversations around forgiveness shame the survivor for how they’re coping with being traumatized. To suggest the survivor is unforgiving takes focus away from the abusers horrific actions. To help someone heal, hold their abuser accountable & let the survivor heal in peace.

not in dismissal of their pain,
not by promising future happiness,
