When people asked me how I learned about the Bill of Rights, which I used to sue for my freedom🍀, I said: “By keepin’ still and mindin’ things.”🧠 And I was right.

During the time I was in enslavement with Hannah and her husband, I had a little child called Betsy, the most important person in my live.🥰

When I got my freedom, Hannah begged me to come home, but I didn’t want to. So I moved in for a while with Sedgwick, I am very grateful to him for having helped me so much💘 #HistoryatVasco
It wasn't easy, but I finally managed to be free. 🧚🏻♀️💞
I already told you that my name was Bett, right? Well, when I got my freedom I changed my name to ✨Elisabeth Freeman✨ #HistoryatVasco

After my confrontation with Hannah, I left home, I was very angry😾. A coronel appealed the law for me to come back, so I called Theodore Sedgewick, a lawyer who had anti-slavery feelings, and asked for his help to get my freedom.
That’s where my fight started💪🏿

I'm going to give you an advise. Listen carefully!!! Family goes first always, please if you have loved ones, like I do, take care of them and if something (or someone) hurt them do your best to keep it from happening again.😘😊
I honestly consider myself a brave person💪🏿, the time I was the most was when once I stopped Hannah from hitting a maid with a hot shovel, I protected the girl and received a deep wound on my arm, but it was worth it to save her.💖 #HistoryatVasco

I was born as a slave on Pieter Hogeboom’s farm in New York, where I was called Bet. When Hogeboom’s daughter Hannah married, he gave me to her and her husband when I was only seven years old.
It was very hard to be a slave and to feel used and misprized...

Did you knew that my name, Phillis, comes from the ship in which I was transported from Africa to America and my surname, Wheatley, from John and Susanna Wheatley, the merchant family who decided to buy me to make me their personal maid and servant? It’s kind of curious.🤔
"I heard a newspaper that was read yesterday, that it says that all men are created equal and that all men have the right to freedom. I am not a dumb creature, won't the law give me my freedom?" #HistoryatVasco
I become the first enslaved African-American woman to file and win a lawsuit for freedom in Massachusetts State Constitution in 1780. 😼

I understand you and I agree with you, I cannot believe that they continue using us for slavery. Between all of us we will end with it💪🏿 #HistoryatVasco
