“Dahil sa inyo ‘to. Lahat kayo sumuporta!”
Sassa Gurl had reason to celebrate after announcing that “Multwoh (Patay na Patay Sa’yo),” the film she leads, will screen nationwide at Ayala Cinemas starting Oct. 21.
“Gusto ko muna pasalamatan lahat, ang promo team. Thank you so much sa pagsama sa akin all the time sa mga ganap. Never kayong napagod,” she said during a recent screening. A video of her announcement was also posted on the film’s social media accounts.
“Nakakuha ako ng magandang balita, ngayon lang. Oh my God! Magne-nationwide tayo! Nakakaloka kayo,” she added.
Directed by Rodina Singh, ‘“Multwoh” earned the audience’s choice recognition among seven full-length films that competed at the recent Puregold CinePanalo festival. Its screenings drew audiences, with sold-out shows reported in Metro Manila.
The film also won four awards at the festival’s annual awards night: Always Panalo, Panalo sa mga Manonood, Panalo sa Production Design, and Panalo sa Brand Intrusion.
Its upcoming theatrical run will extend beyond Metro Manila, with screenings scheduled in Cebu and Cagayan de Oro, among other locations.
The film’s reception reflects the appeal of its lead star, whose online following helped draw attention to the project, as well as a promotional campaign that included press interviews, online appearances, and a public stunt in which Sassa Gurl gamely climbed into a coffin to stir curiosity about the film.
But the audience response also raises a larger question about the appetite for queer stories in Philippine cinema.
At the Puregold CinePanalo awards ceremony, Singh said the audience choice award carried particular weight for her as a filmmaker.
“To me as a filmmaker, this [Panalo sa Manonood award] feels the most validating among all the awards for tonight,” she said.
“Sumali po ako sa pagpepelikula na ang tanong sa samin, ‘may manonood ba ng kwentong gusto niyong ikwento?’”
She added that “Multwoh” had surpassed the screenings of her previous films.
“Sa pangatlong pagkakataon, sasabihin ko po na ang “Multwoh” ay nahigitan na ang lahat ng screenings ng una ko pang pelikula at pangalawa.”
The nationwide release will give more moviegoers a chance to see whether the film’s festival following can translate into a wider theatrical audience. Its reception also offers a glimpse into how locally made queer films can find viewers beyond their immediate communities.

Market!, Fairview Terraces, Ayala Malls Manila Bay, Ayala Malls Circuit, Ayala Malls Feliz, Ayala Malls Cloverleaf, Ayala Malls Marquee, Ayala Malls Harbor Point, Ayala Malls Center Cebu, Ayala Malls Centrio, and Ayala Malls Central Bloc.
