We are saddened by the passing of former Ontario Integrity Commissioner J. David Wake. Throughout his exemplary career, David made a lasting, inspiring impact on the law and public service. He was a distinguished colleague, mentor and friend to many of us.

Today is our “unofficial” 50th birthday! On May 22, 1975, the Ombudsman started working for you – even though we weren’t officially open yet. Ontarians were so keen to bring their concerns to our new office, we had to start a few months early. Let us explain…
Fifty years ago today, Ontarians learned they would soon have an Ombudsman!
On March 11, 1975, in a Speech from the Throne, the government promised to establish a “provincial ombudsman… to ensure the protection of our citizens against arbitrary judgment or practices.”
