Meanwhile, in "Palestine", they celebrated mass murder of innocent people. Like they always do.
We are not the same.
Charlie Kirks mord hjemsøger mig stadig.
Der er gået et år, men det føles som i går, at jeg så hans brutale henrettelse på X.
Mine tanker går til hans kone og børn, for det, der lægges ud på internettet, bliver der for evigt.
There are eight to nine billion solar panels in the world — roughly three terawatts of nameplate capacity. They were built in a rush that took decades to reach the first terawatt, and only a few years to triple it.
Every one of them still needs the sun at the right angle, through clear air, in the right season. Night removes the lot. Cloud does not just dim the light. A storm front can drag dark cover across tens or hundreds of square miles in a couple of hours and take a large solar fleet from near full output towards zero. This is an energy cliff that the world is falling over, again and again.
The operator has to do something to replace the energy: gas, coal, hydro, nuclear or a short-term battery that may be already half dead. Batteries may buy minutes or a few hours. They do not buy a week in midwinter's overcast weather. At mid-latitudes, a panel that looks excellent in June delivers a third of that energy in December — with shorter days, lower sun and more bad weather — while heating demand shoots up the other way.
Snow can blank out a field for days. Dust and rain do it more quietly. You can tilt, sweep and overbuild more panels. But no-one can claw back winter or night.
Then there is time. A module is sold as a 25- to 30-year asset. The inverters die sooner. The first big waves of rooftop and utility panels from the 2000s boom are already ageing out, dying where they stood years ago.
IRENA and others now project end-of-life waste rising from a trickle today toward tens of millions of tonnes a year by mid-century, and hundreds of millions of tonnes in total.
A silicon panel is a complex web of hi-tech. It's made of glass, aluminium, copper, a little silver, in a laminated sandwich that was never going to come apart cheaply. Europe has producer-responsibility rules. But in much of the world, landfill and crude scrapheaps are still the default. Recycling can recover most of the mass — glass and aluminium dominate the weight — but the valuable fraction is small and the process too costly in most places.
The real question is not whether solar can make cheap midday power in June in midsummer. It can. The question is what we do when hundreds of millions of panels are worn out, inefficient, dying or bluntly uneconomic next to the next generation waiting in the truck.
Do we pay to pull them? Do we recycle them? Do we build the field a second and third time — buying more glass, more silver, more copper, more labour, more grid gear — or do we leave a generation of hardware to sag on frames and sink into the ground where it sits?
We are already installing the second crop while the first lot are dying in the dust.
Cloudy thinking has metastasised into energy cancer: treating nameplate gigawatts (the official working life claim) as if they were firm power. We treat the road trains of rusting waste as a problem for someone else later on.
The materials-per-megawatt comparison with a wind turbine is the easy argument. The hard one is whether a civilisation can keep restocking the same fields on the chance the sky cooperates — and what it costs when it doesn’t.

The IDF has blown up a major Hezbollah tunnel system underneath the Ali Taher Ridge - a strategic point in south Lebanon.
An Israeli military official tells me:
1: “In recent months, IDF soldiers increased the military pressure on terrorists who were operating from the underground infrastructure on the Ali al-Taher Ridge.”
2: “Initially, IDF soldiers achieved operational control over the ridge from above ground through offensive operational activities that included ambushes, strikes on tunnel shafts using fire, grenades, drones, and additional means.”
3: “Subsequently, the soldiers also achieved operational control below ground across the ridge area. This was a lengthy and localized operation within the Security Zone, aimed at neutralizing the ability to plan and carry out terror attacks against Israeli civilians and IDF soldiers from the underground infrastructure.”
4: “The network of underground routes throughout the Ali al-Taher Ridge consisted of a total of eight underground routes, with a combined length of more than 5,400 meters. Various types of weapons were located within the underground infrastructure by the IDF, including dozens of explosive drones, UAVs, machine guns and anti-tank missiles, hundreds of mines, RPG rockets, explosive devices, and additional military equipment.”
5: “Some of the terrorists who were staying in the ridge area abandoned the area, while others were eliminated. Terrorists identified as attempting to leave the area or bring supplies into the infrastructure were eliminated by aerial strikes and artillery fire. During an encounter involving IDF soldiers, a terrorist was eliminated at close range while attempting to flee from one of the underground routes.”
6: “Upon achieving operational control both above and below ground, the IDF achieved two objectives: the neutralization and dismantling of strategic underground infrastructure for Hezbollah, which served as a central command-and-control center for the “Badr” Unit; and the achievement of operational control over the Ali Taher Ridge, which constitutes commanding terrain overlooking the Nabatieh area, the capital of the Shiite community in southern Lebanon.”
7: “Upon completion of the operation, the IDF completed the dismantling of the majority of the underground routes throughout the ridge, rendering them unusable for terrorists seeking to entrench themselves underground or plan attacks from within them. This follows the dismantling of the main underground routes in the Beaufort Ridge and the surrounding villages of Arnoun, Yohmor, and Tibnit.”
Prime minister Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz said:
“In accordance with the directive of the Prime Minister and the Defense Minister, the IDF has now destroyed the underground infrastructure of the Hezbollah terrorist organization in the Ali Taher ridge, thereby completing the consolidation of the security zone in southern Lebanon.
This was strategic terror infrastructure built over two decades, with Iranian funding and planning. The terror infrastructure and the command center on the ridge were designed to serve as the staging base for the conquest of the Galilee, and had observation and fire dominance over Metula and Kiryat Shmona. Their destruction completes the achievement of operational control over the Ali Taher ridge – above and below ground.
IDF forces are deploying for defense in the area and to prevent enemy forces from returning to the territory.
The IDF will remain in the security zone and will continue destroying terror infrastructure and thwarting any attempt by the Hezbollah terrorist organization to re-establish itself and restore its capabilities.
The State of Israel will continue to defend the northern communities from within Lebanon – and any attempt to harm our citizens and our forces will be met with force.”
