Negative attitudes towards people living with dementia can lead to unfair treatment, make it harder to seek diagnosis and support, and affect everyday life.

People affected by dementia shared their experiences of stigma and how it has affected them:

'I'm treated as though nothing I have to say about myself would be taken into account.'

'On the train, a woman refused to move when I asked, stating "I'm not moving. You look younger than me. You don't look disabled."'

'People don't believe me when I tell them my husband has dementia, as he is 60 and physically fit.'

'You see people looking, and I know they're thinking "What's wrong with her?"'

'There seems to be so much stigma around dementia, but with the ageing population, a lot more people are going to get it.'

The search for Parker remains our highest priority.

In this video, Sgt. Rich Wall, Deputy Operations Chief and Search Manager, provides an update on the significant efforts underway to locate Parker. Over the past week, the CPS has deployed extensive resources, working alongside partner agencies, trained search volunteers and community members to search for Parker and follow up on every possible lead.

Search operations continue to be guided by investigative information, lost person behaviour research and established search-management principles. Every effort is being focused on finding the piece of information that could lead us to Parker.

We want to thank the hundreds of officers, civilian staff, partner agencies, volunteers and Calgarians who have supported this search. Your cooperation, vigilance and commitment have been nothing short of invaluable and inspiring, and we want to thank you for respecting active search operations and investigative efforts.

As we continue this search, we need your help. Please keep your eyes open, review camera footage, check your properties, spread the word and report anything that could assist investigators. No detail is too small.

The closure should not be interpreted as an indication that Parker has been located or that investigators have information placing him in this area. Residents are asked to use alternate park access points and avoid the area where police and our partners are searching.

Community Search Update – Help Bring Parker Home.

Parker, an 11-year-old non-verbal autistic boy, has been missing from the Thorncliffe area of Calgary since July 16, 2026. Official search efforts continue with strong hope he is alive and no public indication of foul play. Police and volunteers are asking the public to focus carefully on the areas shown below.

Search Focus (as of the latest community update map):
·        Red pin marks Parker’s last known whereabouts in Thorncliffe.
·        Inner blue circle ≈ 1.8 km radius is excluded from the numbered zone searches (already heavily covered).
·        Outer purple circle ≈ 3.8 km radius. Please concentrate on publicly accessible areas inside the shaded outer boundaries.

Numbered zones:
1.     Huntington Hills West (west of Deerfoot)
2.     Huntington Hills East (east of Deerfoot)
3.     Marlborough Park
4.     Northview Industrial Park
5.     Tuxedo Park South
6.     Confederation Park & Rosedale
7.     Nose Hill Park Southwest
8.     Nose Hill Park Northwest
9.     Nose Creek Corridor

Boundaries follow major roads, pathways, and natural barriers. Check sheds, garages, vehicles, RVs, greenhouses, dense bushes, crawl spaces, and other possible enclosed spots in public areas. Parker is known to be comfortable with locks and doors and may enter and secure spaces.

How to Help:
·        Review all your CCTV, doorbell, and dashcam footage from July 16 onward. Submit any potentially relevant clips to Calgary Police.
·        Double- and triple-check your own property thoroughly (including locked or unexpected spaces).
·        Share this post widely in your networks.
·        Report any information to authorities immediately.

If you see Parker:
Do not approach him. Keep him in eyesight from a safe distance—he may become frightened and hide. Call 911 right away with his location and direction of travel.

Despite an exhaustive search & ongoing investigative efforts, we continue to be unable to identify Parker’s whereabouts after he was last seen on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at 12:52 p.m. Given Parker’s history of entering structures & locking doors behind him, we are asking anyone aware of vacant properties or homeowners who are away in the following areas to contact police:

·        Travis Crescent N.E.
·        Trelle Drive N.E.
·        Taylor Crescent N.E.
·        Travis Place N.E.
·        Thomas Street N.E.

We also continue to ask residents to check their properties, as well as realtors and property managers to ensure vacant properties have been searched.

Parker was last seen shirtless, wearing dark shorts & black noise-cancelling headphones. He is 4'11", approximately 90 pounds, with brown hair, a shaved head & brown eyes.

Parker is neurodivergent & non-verbal and may become even more scared if confronted by strangers. If Parker is located, members of the public are asked not to approach him. Instead, call 911 immediately.
