The largest number of Jewish civilians were killed in a single day since the Holocaust, in atrocities perpetrated by people whose ideology was forged by a literal friend of Hitler and the leader of Muslim SS volunteers. That's all you need to know about the war in Israel.
To my non-Israeli friends, in anticipation of the massive impending Israeli response, I wanted to help “size” the situation. Proportionately what happened yesterday in Israel was larger than Pearl Harbor and twice as large as 9/11. But in a critical way it was much worse than both: hundreds were kidnapped and taken captive into enemy territory, including many children and elderly. Imagine if a rogue nation infiltrated the US, took captive 5000 civilians and smuggled them to enemy territory. The response would have been much worse than the response for 9/11. We have some very difficult days ahead.
Israel has the ability to turn Gaza to dust & rebuild on top of it.
Thankfully they will never do that.
If Hamas had such power, they would kill every Jew in Israel.
This stark difference is what makes it so easy to see which side is right in this conflict.
New York City has the largest Jewish population in the world outside of Israel, and we stand side by side with Israel every day — but we do so with extra resolve tonight.
Today, Hamas terrorists have struck at the heart of Israel capturing and killing innocent women and children.
Israel has the right to defend itself - today and in the days to come.
The European Union stands with Israel.
Israelis across the country—on Shabbat and the holiday of Simchat Torah—woke up to sirens sounding and Hamas firing rockets at them from Gaza this morning.
We will defend ourselves.
