Ellen

Mum of two, one neurodivergent. Doctor of little people in Somerset. Special interest in #Paeds, #MedEd & #PayRestoration for #NHS staff…

[Ellen @EllenG_H]

Fascinating article shared by @JamesTitcombe on the neuroscience behind ‘gut feeling’ and why the pervasive culture of minimising or dismissing parental ‘anxiety’ is so dangerous.

Saddened but gladdened for initiatives such as #MarthasRule.

Research from nearly 200k A&E visits showed parental concern was a better predictor of serious illness than any vital signs like blood pressure, heart rate etc.
New study in @TheLancet is further vindication of the value of Martha's Rule 👇

@ProfRobHoward I learned a great deal from cadaveric dissection at @KeeleMedSchool. It imbued us all with a great deal of respect, compassion and gratitude toward donors and their families. A consequence of the hidden curriculum that, in my opinion, shouldn’t be overlooked or undervalued.

[Ellen @EllenG_H]

@Dr_BellaR My record is 10 months, if you disqualify never.

I was finally paid for locum shifts between Feb - Nov 24 in Dec 24. Add in £15.60 per shift for parking, creating upwards of £300 of outlay.

Chasing remuneration for work is in itself a full time job for locuming doctors.

[Ellen @EllenG_H]

@Damian_Roland @EMtogether @sailordoctor This is a really great piece for Paeds/PEM.

Particularly rate emphasising the value of primary caregivers in assessing baseline function in neurodisability/ divergence. Our tendency to over investigate and treat this ‘high risk’ cohort can do real, cumulative harm over time…

No childhood vaccines met the 95% target for coverage, the data for 2023/24 shows, with particular concerns raised about uptake of key vaccines by five years of age. https://t.co/Lx8mkikwur

It's #OrganDonationWeek and it's more important than ever to make a decision about the gift of life.

It takes just two minutes to confirm that you want to be an organ donor, and you could save up to nine lives.

@TheTraumaSurg Still the only surgeon I’ve ever really admired. Congratulations Michael - that’s awesome news. Wish you and your beautiful family well.

[Ellen @EllenG_H]

@NadiaKamil @hop90 There was a study done with recruitment in the NHS that gives empiric evidence to this. A ‘foreign’ name or ID photo of a non-white British or any individual with religious headwear on CV made employment prospects tank, especially in higher positions. It’s utterly shameful.

[Ellen @EllenG_H]

The gravity of situations I had to professionally handle and personally endure as an FYI during covid aren’t Twitterable. Too identifiable, too raw and frankly you wouldn’t believe me.

But trust me when I say from day 1, our doctors are working far, far above their pay grade.

[Ellen @EllenG_H]

@codingbrown Sending feathered condolences 🪶 It’s heartbreaking 😔

[UK Health Security Agency @UKHSA]

We publish data today that shows whooping cough cases continuing to rise, with five infant deaths reported for the period Jan to Mar 2024.

Please contact your GP practice if you are pregnant and have not yet been vaccinated.

#MayThe4th, a good day.

Happy bank holiday weekend all.

Especially to those merely glimpsing natural light between long shifts in the #NHS 💛

SEE?!! 👌

[Felicity Hannah @FelicityHannah]

It's my middle son's birthday today, which means it's the anniversary of the greatest moment in my life. Not his birth - although that definitely ranks highly - but the day I had the PERFECT comment in the PERFECT moment.

@EileenC_Foster I warn you: starting gardening to avoid a to-do list will only give you another (far more hardcore) gardening to-do list that waits for no one and demands to be done hail, rain or shine! But yes, I can confirm it’s 100% worth it 🌷

Good luck with your beautiful blooms ☺️

[Ellen @EllenG_H]

@DrNatalieACope There were many that said you couldn’t have a baby and complete a masters… @ToniAlexR and I didn’t agree 🤣

[Ellen @EllenG_H]

At 17 I did Art and wanted to be a Mum.

U-turned mid A-levels and was laughed out of the careers office for presenting my personal statement for #Medicine, propped up by last min veterinary work experience and deep personal reflection.

At 26 I qualified, Mum of two. So there.

I want to hear some underdog stories. Tell me about your 12th grade advisor who said you wouldn’t get into college, your premed advisor who said you wouldn’t get into med school, etc. tell me all the ways you’ve turned their doubt into fuel 💪

Junior doctors in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿, tomorrow is the last day to safely post your ballot paper back.

Without a 50% turnout and a majority voting ‘YES’, the Government will claim a victory. Let’s not blow it now.

✉️Post your ballot back TODAY.

@Elisabe99770240 Thank you Elisabeth.

This also happened to me, 2nd baby.

Examined by 3 midwives separately who all confirmed membranes intact and not in labour, seen by an Obstetric SpR and discharged home.

I put my ‘medical student’ foot down and they sent me upstairs. Not 15m later I was holding my daughter.

[Catherine Roy @catherineroyuk]

Settlement.
