So, I'm going to have to write something from scratch, a BASIC interpreter that is memory-efficient and also runs quickly. Something that quickly tokenizes the lines as they're entered and pre-calculates jump addresses for goto and gosub. A lot of work, but it should be worth it.

Increasingly looking like I may need to write my own BASIC interpreter from scratch for my pseudo-retrocomputing project. MY-BASIC ported over easily, and is powerful, but it's really not optimized for embedded microcontroller use.

MY-BASIC seems to allocate a lot of memory for each line of code. It's for efficiency and flexibility when running, but not really optimal for running in a tiny microcontroller. It's also surprisingly slow, at least when running on this MCU.
