I’m having a good time with this Calvinist notion of two divine wills.
So God has a split personality!
He actively prohibits and rails against actions that He has Himself decreed!
“Don’t do this!” commands the God who decreed I would do it, and could do no other.
Lunacy.
@tomselliott@IlhanMN@SpeakerMcCarthy The dependence of political grandstanding on the public's ignorance of the federal institutions is so blatant... committee assignments are frequently changed, don't let her fool you. It's a great tool for incentizing compromise. Which is the last thing she wants to happen....
@RobCallan31@MatteoDGatto @Miriamelia1 @lindaneylan@HiromiK810@ZubyMusic True, the new translation of old texts rekindled Greco-Roman thought, but the values that formed in the west were only possible because they blended that thought with the religious ideals of the day. Greco-Roman thought can produce democracy but not liberalism, not freedom.
@RobCallan31 @Miriamelia1 @lindaneylan@HiromiK810@ZubyMusic 2/2 this eventually became a more secular movement, especially in Europe, but the core values didn't change. For the majority in America it was always a religious concept. People eventually had to find secular basises for the same reasoning; none of which are irrefutable.
@MatteoDGatto@RobCallan31 @Miriamelia1 @lindaneylan@HiromiK810@ZubyMusic The enlightenment was primarily influenced by the protestant reformation. They took some Greek and Roman tradition and created a form a government that didn't violate religion, and reflected the inherent right of people, given that they are made by God.
@omegatheta@Stuffysinger@RubinReport Secularism wasn't really the goal, it was a means to ensure that one religion wouldn't tyranize over the rest. Secularism is essentially a religion, and roe v Wade restricts the beliefs of other value systems by limiting states abilities to reflect the beliefs of its inhabitants.
@benshapiro Should trans women be able to qualify for grants and aid intended solely for women? How one defines womanhood does impact how one views policy application. Ginsburg was a feminist and would not have wanted her efforts to support women rendered redundant.
@ToxicGingerRose @SaraGonzalesTX Labling personal beliefs that differ from yours as terrorist threats seems pretty fascist to me... since fascism involves forcing beliefs on people or controlling what people can believe. The government is not omnipotent... it could be wrong; it has no right to enforce beliefs.
@ErnestQuintani5@pitbull9713@realDailyWire This has come to be understood as God commanding his followers to put him first above all things because that was God's intent. But the culture at the time looked at reigion through the physical world so this was important. But physical depictions still remain a danger to faith.
@ErnestQuintani5@pitbull9713@realDailyWire The commandant about idolatry was about creating physical images or statues called idols and worshipping them for the "god" they embodied. Since God is not actually in the physical creation they are not actually worshipping him so he banned their creation.
@joe43932@benshapiro You realize it's not always the same people who are rich, right? The 1% changes all the time so it's not like there is a small group of people who are the only ones to benifit... heck, George Floyd's family just joined the 1% you really never know what will happen.
@neromtequilla @enriquebasa@TaylorValen9@RonCharles You're going to use the constitution to interpret the constitution. Thats what you are saying... and you don't see why that doesn't make sense?
@neromtequilla @enriquebasa@TaylorValen9@RonCharles And also someone in office can't just enact whatever laws they want the laws are still representative of the people... if you cant even understand that then you really don't know what you're arguing about.
@neromtequilla @enriquebasa@TaylorValen9@RonCharles Read a letter concerning toleration by John locke... you're confused on the very basic idea of toleration... democracy is founded on the total free flow of information, all ideas are allowed. Without that democracy can't exist
@TaylorValen9@enriquebasa@RonCharles Your argument is moot? Religious motivations vs secular motivations placed on the same law are equal. She's not forcing you to follow her beliefs she's using her morals to decide how to execute law which was ruled by the majority. What are you even taking about...
