Vanderbilt - Spain Empty - Tyler Tanner
Drop coverage beater from Vandy: Tanner able to turn the corner left + get to the rim with Johann Grunloh stuck on the back screen from Bangot Dak
Coaches: How are you guarding THIS? 👀
Tommy Lloyd’s Miami/Rip quick hitter is FILTHY. 🔥
Easy to execute. A nightmare to guard.
Save this for your “we need a bucket” package. 📝

SWITCH BEATER - EOG
Most teams will switch 1-5 or 1-4 + leave a goalie in EOG situations under 5 seconds.
The layering of the cross screen into a duck in, and then into a middle 3rd stagger is beautiful.
The magic here is forcing TWO SWITCHES - the cross screen and slip from the top of the stagger. This puts a ton of pressure on the defense.
What looks like a very complicated play is simply capitalizing on one defensive tendency. Simplicity is the ultimate sophisticaton.

There’s a lesson here for coaches:
The opportunity you prayed for might not look like an opportunity when you first get it.
Sometimes the job isn’t ready for you.
You’re there to build what’s missing.
Joe Mazzulla on the importance of building a culture that doesn’t depend solely on the head coach.
“You don't want to be the sole person controlling the environment. You almost want it to run better when you're not around because that's a testament of the people.”
If your culture only works when you’re watching, then you've merely just created compliance.
The best environments are sustained by the people and shared ownership inside them.

Joe Mazulla says he got rejected for the Utah Jazz head coaching job because he tried too hard to win the interview, and says he’ll never wear a suit again on an interview
“The first thing I learned? I’m never wearing a suit again. I wore one there, and I felt too uncomfortable. I was like, I’m never doing this again.”
“What I learned was, throughout that interview process, I didn’t take full ownership of my coaching identity. I kind of went in hesitant.”
“Instead of 100% being myself, wanting to win the interview. I didn’t do a good enough job owning myself. Which I think is very important.”
“There’s having an identity. There’s knowing yourself. But then there’s conviction of, like, this is what I believe in. This is what my identity and philosophy is. And you’re convicted to that. I didn’t bring that. And that’s what I took out of that.”
The most CONFRONTATIONAL screen is a RIP screen. This means it stretches the defense the most because of the line to the hoop.
Conversely, the RIP screen also creates the most space for the screener.
Using the RIP screen in a BLOB situation capitalizes on gravity + eliminates the low man. This means if the lob/backdoor isn’t the there, the screener will be able to detach quickly and create.
DEFINITELY the most underutilized OFF BALL action in basketball.
This is a staple action out of the BLOB from Virginia. Multiple reads. 👇🏼
