Plutus v1 needs to die💀

50% of smart contract transactions use Plutus v1, but they account for 90% of their size in blocks!

This means users could have about ten time more bandwidth in blocks if they stopped using v1 dApps.

Govern with your wallet, stop using v1 dApps!

This is an emotional moment for me.

@phantom - imo the best web3 wallet out there - is adding Bitcoin and ordinals support.

Last year, in 2022, bitcoin was a joke. The stagnant uncle of crypto. “Nothing to see here” was the sentiment across the industry.

I went on one of the popular laser-eye podcasts and raised a question: how can we expect nation states to adopt BTC for payments, if even digital collectible marketplaces like OpenSea don’t want to adopt it? If even popular digital wallets like Metamask won’t support it?

The podcaster answered “well, but they could adopt BTC. They’re choosing not to”.

That’s true, I explained, but they’re not just going to do it for no reason. We need to give them a reason. We don’t have to bribe them with tokens like other ecosystems sometimes do, but we need to give them a reason.

We need to build something irresistible, I said. Something everyone will WANT to be a part of. Otherwise, bitcoin adoption might grind to a halt.

When the show aired, it got some of the most toxic responses I’ve ever seen from the laser-eye cult.

They were saying that I’m trolling, that no one needs or wants NFTs on bitcoin, that jpeg collectors are grifters and will never choose to use a pure form of money like Bitcoin if they’re not getting bribes from an immoral shitcoin foundation.

They said that Bitcoin doesn’t need this, that it wouldn’t work, and to never have me on laser-eye podcasts again.

That’s when, in the summer of 2022, @ercwl @0xfar and myself decided we were just gonna build it.

We started working on the artwork and storyline for the @TaprootWizards last year, before ordinals were a thing. We thought we could build an NFT community for bitcoiners, where the NFTs are traded with BTC, and bring the magic back to Bitcoin.

If we do it right, we could share our love for Bitcoin with the degen world.

But it was only when @rodarmor released ordinals that we got the critical answer for how to do it technically.

From there everything happened fast. We found a way to mine bitcoin’s first 4mb block. We found a way to fit 2,121 wizards on bitcoin. We helped onboard thousands to Bitcoin and lightning. We had crypto degens take their first showers 🚿.

A lot has happened since then. Today we have the top marketplaces and exchanges doing Bitcoin inscriptions — Magic Eden, OKX, Binance — and now we’re joined by the best web3 wallets too.

All because ordinals enjoyers — the real bitcoiners — got together and decided we can show the world that bitcoin IS magical.

And it worked.

And I couldn’t feel more proud.

But for us, this is just the beginning. We have a lot more work to do.

Year 1 has been a massive success, but we didn’t even scratch the surface yet of what Bitcoin could be.
