“I feel it’s my responsibility, as an artist, to use this moment to speak up for all oppressed people. For Black people, for Latino people, for trans people, for the people in Gaza. We all deserve to live in hope and not fear.”
— Doechii at the #BETAwards
The silence of the film industry is alarming. A man slapping another man was talked about for MONTHS, yet when a director gets KIDNAPPED suddenly no one wants to get on their soapbox
As a member of the Multicultural Council of Australia, this is a disgrace.
Australia has over 300 different cultural ancestries and backgrounds, is multi-faith and secular, a model for multicultural integration and the power and beauty of diversity.
Our friends, colleagues, community members, football community are from all around the world.
Whitlam had the courage to move beyond the White Australia era when migrants were judged and selected based on their eye colour and shape, skin colour and aryan ancestry and today, the overwhelming majority of Australians see our diversity as a natural and important part of our national identity and daily experience.
This headline would have fit perfectly in that bygone era.
For the Australian newspaper to be peddling this rubbish is dangerous and especially disturbing when the same message is being peddled by Musk and far right, racist and neo-Nazi organisations, and should be condemned by every Australian.
Sadly, it appears that we will be subject to far more of this xenophobic rhetoric in the lead up to the election.
All racism is abhorrent and too many Australians, and communities still contend with discrimination.
Let us attack the discrimination itself, not the nature of Australian society.
Something so satisfying about this man’s refusal to take the bait with the usual leading questions on migration. Just calmly & stubbornly fair-minded, straightforward, no nonsense answers in a perfect Wexford accent right in the middle of the town. 10/10
